Manager, Ion Source and Trap Performance at IonQ

We are looking for an Experimental Atomic Physicist with experience in transforming complex atomic physics experiments into practical applications. As a member of the engineering and technology organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers whose mission is to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. You’ll be a technical contributor on the team responsible for ablation, ionization, and loading of Barium ions in our quantum computers.

Responsibilities:

1. Experimentally characterize the ablation performance of novel Barium targets
2. Collaborate with external partners in novel materials development projects for ion generation
3. Partner with our internal ion trap and packaging team on opto-mechanical design improvements for laser ablation and ionization
4. Propose and implement improvements to rapid ion chain loading to extend to hundreds of qubits
