Job description

Our client is a fast-growing healthcare technology company seeking an Atlassian Architect. Jira and Confluence are the operating system for how our client plans, tracks, and documents work across Product, Engineering, and IT - which makes their architecture a company-wide dependency, not a niche admin task.

Summary

The Atlassian Architect owns the design, governance, and scalability of the company’s Jira and Confluence environments. This role is responsible for designing project and workflow schemes that align with how teams operate, building automation to reduce manual processes, managing the Atlassian Marketplace ecosystem, and ensuring the platform remains scalable, organized, and reliable as the organization grows.

This is an architecture-focused position rather than a traditional Jira administration/help desk role. The Atlassian Architect will have company-wide ownership of how teams organize, track, and document their work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain Jira project, workflow, permission, and notification schemes across Product, Engineering, IT, and business teams.
  • Architect Confluence space structures, permissions, and templates to ensure documentation remains organized and accessible.
  • Build and maintain Jira automation rules that reduce manual ticket handling and improve process consistency.
  • Own the Atlassian Marketplace app portfolio, including evaluation, procurement, licensing, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead Jira and Confluence migrations, consolidations, project merges, and major workflow restructuring initiatives.
  • Partner with business systems teams on integrations between Atlassian and platforms such as NetSuite, Slack, GitHub, Monday, and HubSpot.
  • Define and enforce data governance standards around custom fields, naming conventions, permissions, and platform hygiene.
  • Manage Atlassian licensing, costs, and the vendor relationship.
  • Provide architectural guidance to IT Product Managers and Scrum Masters when establishing new team spaces and workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience administering Jira and Confluence within an organization of 200+ users, including direct ownership of schemes and permissions.
  • Experience managing Atlassian Marketplace applications in a production environment, including installation, configuration, licensing, and cost considerations.
  • Strong understanding of the Jira data model, including issue types, custom fields, workflows, screens, and how they interact at scale.
  • Experience leading or executing a Jira/Confluence migration or major restructuring initiative.
  • Ability to establish platform standards and push back on requests that could create long-term technical debt.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Atlassian Certified Professional (ACP) certification in Jira Administration or a related discipline.
  • Experience integrating Atlassian products with GitHub, Slack, ERP, or CRM systems through APIs or middleware.
  • Experience supporting both software engineering teams and non-technical business teams within the same Atlassian environment.
  • Experience working within a regulated industry where audit trails, documentation, and access controls are important.

Tools & Technologies

  • Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Atlassian Marketplace Apps, Jira/Confluence REST APIs, Slack, GitHub, Monday, NetSuite

What Success Looks Like

  • Teams can establish new Jira projects and Confluence spaces correctly using standardized templates and governance.
  • Automation handles routine ticket routing and status updates that previously required manual intervention.
  • Jira and Confluence remain scalable and organized as the company grows, without excessive custom fields or permission sprawl.
  • Cross-functional reporting is reliable because projects follow a consistent, governed structure.
