Job summary

Poplar School District is seeking a dedicated Athletic Director to oversee all head coaches and manage the district's interscholastic athletic programs. The role includes selecting, assigning, and evaluating coaching staff and ensuring compliance with MHSA regulations.

The Athletic Director will organize athletic events, arrange officials and transportation for contests, and foster strong school‑family relations through clear communication of rules and eligibility standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with courses in the organization and administration of athletic programs.
• Five years experience as a teacher and coach.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written form with administrators, staff, parents, and students.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and general knowledge of issues and problems in all aspects of school athletics.

Responsibilities

• Supervises all head coaches.
• Assists in selecting, assigning, and evaluating all coaching personnel.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Board’s policies, rules, regulations, and/or directives and applicable laws.
• Assumes leadership role in the orientation and in-service training of coaching personnel.
• Represents the School District in matters of interscholastic athletics with the MHSA.
• Responsible for the organization and scheduling of athletic events.
• Arranges officials for all home contests.
• Arranges transportation for away contests.
• Develops and continues to evaluate appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
• Fosters good school-parent relations by maintaining communications relative to rules and regulations on athletics.
• Establishes and enforces the physical, academic, and training requirements of eligibility for participation.
