Job summary

Abundant Life Christian School is seeking a Basketball Coach to develop afterschool practices and games within the program. The coach will lead students in a positive manner, teaching basketball skills and game knowledge, with strong communication to staff, parents, and students.

The candidate should have basketball-playing and/or coaching experience, a sincere Christian faith, and a high level of professionalism.

• Know and apply Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association rules and school policies.

• Support Head Varsity Coach and communicate with players and parents.

Reports To:

Head Coach, Athletic Director, and Assistant Athletic Director

Terms of Employment:

• The Basketball Program includes potentially Varsity and Junior Varsity.
• The High School Basketball Program operates Monday through Friday with after-school practice times TBD and some Saturday games.
• The Basketball season runs from the beginning of November through the middle of March.
• The Basketball position will include a paid stipend.

Job Goal:

The Basketball Coach position includes the development and implementation of afterschool practices and games within the program. The coach will lead students in a positive manner to develop skills and knowledge of the game. Candidates will have experience in the sport, and enrich the participants' experience with their knowledge. The Basketball Coach will demonstrate excellent communication skills with school officials, parents, students, and program officials and have a high sense of professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Has a thorough knowledge of the Rules and By-Laws of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Trailways Conference, and Abundant Life Christian School as they pertain to his/her sport, including clearance of all staff members and student-athletes.
• Complete all necessary rules tests and view videos before the set deadline.
• Attends all required staff and department meetings.
• Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility usage times.
• Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment.
• Provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant by being present at all of his/her practices, games, while traveling and when returning from off-campus.
• Is accountable to the Head Varsity Coach for all equipment. Assists with issuing and collecting of equipment.
• Recommends to the Head Varsity Coach budgetary items for next year in his/her area of the program.
• Secures all doors, lights,and locks and stores all equipment before leaving areas.
• Instills in each player a respect for equipment, school property, and their proper use.
• Assists the Head Varsity Coach in carrying out his/her responsibilities.
• Instructs team members as to changes in the rules and teaches fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the Head Coach.
• Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the Head Varsity Coach of the sport.
• Never criticizes, admonishes or argues with the Head Varsity Coach or any staff members within ears or eyes of players and parents.
• Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the Head Varsity Coach.
• Performs other duties that are consistent with the nature of the positions and that may be requested by the Head Varsity Coach.
