Job summary

Sacred Heart University seeks a Director of Hockey Performance to develop strength and conditioning programs for its Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey teams. The ideal candidate will have significant coaching experience, a background in exercise science, and a commitment to enhancing athlete performance. This leadership role involves designing training programs, overseeing operations in the arena, and collaborating with existing athletic staff to optimize athlete health and performance. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5 or more years’ experience in collegiate hockey strength and conditioning.
  • Experience coaching high level hockey athletes.
  • CSCS through the NSCA or SCCC through CSCCa.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey.
  • Monitor all aspects of sports science within the hockey programs.
  • Maintain communication with Athletic Training staff regarding injured athletes.

Position Summary

To design and implement year-round strength and conditioning program for Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey.

  • Oversee development and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for the Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey programs. Programming includes but is not limited to a combination of training for strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, skill-related drills, mobility, and mental training.
  • Assist with scheduling and usage of teams in the Martire Family Arena.
  • Monitor all aspects of sports science within the Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Programs.
  • Responsible for keeping an open line of communication with Athletic Training staff regarding rehabilitation, treatment, and modification of injured student athletes.
  • Improve the performance of the Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey programs with the pursuit of excellence by supporting and facilitating all aspects of Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Programs.
  • Develop any pre/post-game strength and conditioning routines for Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey programs.
  • Day-to-day operations include ordering appropriate supplies and working with appropriate personnel to ensure proper equipment maintenance is performed and up to date, posting facility hours and regulations, and maintaining office hours.
  • Program development for assigned areas by Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in collegiate hockey strength and conditioning.
  • Experience in strength and conditioning coaching high level hockey athletes.
  • Experience in strength and conditioning coaching in youth to high school hockey athletes.
  • CSCS through the NSCA or SCCC through CSCCa.
  • CPR/AED certified.
