This position reports directly to the Program Manager - Sports Medicine and indirectly to the Supervisor - Athletic Training (if applicable). The Athletic Trainer (AT) must demonstrate the ability to perform functions related to athletic injuries: prevention, treatment, reconditioning, and immediate care as outlined by the Ohio Athletic Training Practice Act and accepted athletic training principles. The AT will demonstrate proper taping, bracing, strapping, and fitting of athletic equipment. They will carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the physician, evaluate, plan, and administer treatments under the supervision of a designated physician. The AT will cover assigned games, matches, and contracted events at the school and other special events under supervision. The AT should have knowledge of growth and development principles, assess athlete data, and interpret relevant information. They will ensure high-quality care, contribute to program development, and maintain BOC certification and state licensure.
The responsibilities include maintaining current standards of practice, working efficiently with healthcare teams, documenting injuries and treatments accurately, developing treatment programs, and educating athletes and staff. The AT must recognize injuries, provide immediate care, and work confidently in emergency situations. They will promote injury prevention, be dependable, adaptable, and proactive in communication and organizational skills.
Stay current with practice standards, research, and regulations. Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers, coaches, and families. Document injury information accurately. Develop and implement treatment plans, communicate with healthcare providers, and instruct athletes in therapeutic exercises. Recognize and manage injuries confidently, including emergencies. Promote injury prevention and maintain a clean, safe environment. Be reliable, punctual, and adaptable, willing to cover events outside primary site. Prioritize tasks, communicate promptly, and contribute to a positive team environment.
