USA Health is seeking an Athletic Trainer to deliver patient-centered care in clinics along the Gulf Coast. The role works under the direction of a designated physician, performing evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitative care for athletic-related conditions.

The incumbent will collaborate with clinicians, assist in surgical cases, and manage patient flow and follow-up scheduling, with hours and benefits consistent with a .50 FTE or greater position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of related experience required.
  • Master’s Degree in healthcare, athletic training, education, or business preferred.
  • Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC) certification and Alabama licensure required upon hire.
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services for USA Health clinics under physician direction.
  • Evaluate and treat musculoskeletal pathology per athletic training competencies (BOC/Alabama boards).
  • Assist in clinic pre-visit planning, triage, surgical case organization and circulation as assigned.
  • Obtain medical history including injury, primary complaint and functional impact.
  • Perform physical examination including ROM, strength, sensation, and special tests.
  • Order radiographs, MRI, EMG, CT or ultrasound as directed.

Education

Responsibilities
  • This position will provide athletic training services for USA Health clinics under the direction of a designated physician
  • Evaluates and treats medical and musculoskeletal pathology patients consistent with the scope and practice of athletic training clinical competencies as defined by the BOC and the State of Alabama Athletic Training Credentialing Board
  • In addition to direct patient care, the incumbent would be responsible for one or all the following: clinic pre-visit planning, coordination of care, new patient triage, surgical case organization, surgical circulation, and surgical first assist as assigned by the Program Manager
  • Obtains medical history for each patient seen that must include but is not limited to a thorough history of injury or condition, a primary complaint, a pain level assessment, past medical history, and quality of life and how it is affected
  • Performs an appropriate physical examination, which includes but is not limited to range of motion testing, strength and/or manual muscle testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, ligamentous testing, and other special tests as needed
  • Orders diagnostic studies or other referrals under the direction of the attending physician such as radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, and ultrasounds
  • Provides initial rehabilitation exercises and the instruction, demonstration, and feedback on patient performance of the exercises as directed by the attending physician
  • Fits the patient with splints, crutches, braces, wraps, and other various durable medical equipment as directed by the attending physician and educates the patient on the appropriate use of the equipment provided
  • Removes sutures or staples and provides dressing changes to post-surgical patients as directed by the attending physician
  • Aides the physician in preparing patients for injections that will be performed by the attending physician
  • Schedules patient follow-up appointments
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as required
Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in healthcare, athletic training, education, or business Preferred
  • Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers and licensure as an Athletic Trainer with the state of Alabama Upon Hire Required
