  • Complete annual department-required training and stay current with policy changes.

Overview

The Outreach athletic trainer is responsible for supporting all aspects of Sports Medicine services with schools and community partners—daily operations, community outreach, injury prevention programming, research, and coordination of care. They will develop professional relationships with patients, families, and school communities to become a valued healthcare resource, deliver a high level of customer service, and continually seek ways to improve the quality of the patient experience. Areas of priority will include—school/community partner engagement, weekly clinical coverage, department operations, and community event coverage.

Responsibilities
  • Provide detailed communication across the continuum of care involving patients, families, Nationwide Children’s Hospital staff, and school community.
  • Engage in relationship building and management with patients, families, and school/partner communities in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Maintain the highest level of safety, injury prevention, and emergency procedures per Sports Medicine policy and procedures.
  • Execute skills required for triage, assessment, diagnosis, and referral of sports medicine concerns for the pediatric and adolescent population.
  • Complete annual department-required training and stay current with policy and procedural changes for clinical care.
  • Acquire competence in any techniques used in clinic and patient care.
Education & Licensure
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or a closely related field; Master’s Degree highly preferred.
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Ohio.
Certifications
  • Board of Certification (BOC) certified.
  • CPR certification.
Experience

1-3 years in a related clinical setting.

Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and injury documentation software (preferred).
Physical Requirements

Occasionally: biohazard waste handling, climbing stairs/ladder, driving motor vehicles (work required), handling fumes/gases/vapors, lifting/carrying 61–100 lbs, exposure to loud noises, pushing/pulling 0–25 lbs and 26–40 lbs, reaching above shoulder, squatting/kneeling, working outdoors.

Frequently: bending/twisting, exposure to blood and/or bodily fluids, handling 0–10 lbs, 11–20 lbs, 21–40 lbs, 41–60 lbs, repetitive hand/arm use, sitting, grasping, gripping, turning, interpreting data.

Continuously: audible speech, exposure to chemicals/medications, color vision, communal diseases and/or pathogens, computer skills, decision making, depth perception, neck flexing/extending, hearing acuity, patient equipment usage, peripheral vision, problem solving, vision far/near, standing, walking.
