Job description

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Coordinate pre-participation, annual, and exit physical exams.
  • Collaborate with Sports Performance professionals to develop and implement injury prevention strategies.
  • Work with campus health services and team physicians to develop student athlete health and performance education programs.
  • Evaluate and treat injuries and illnesses during practices and competitions.
  • Design and implement rehabilitation programs.
  • Coordinate pre-practice and pre-game preparations for teams.
  • Revise and implement emergency action plans, collaborating with local EMS, fire, and paramedics.
  • Maintain and communicate injury and availability reports.
  • Prepare insurance claims in collaboration with the university's secondary insurance provider and third-party administrators.
  • Work in cooperation with the university's medical director and team physicians.
  • Manage all medical and protective equipment, including fabrication of custom protective gear.
  • Travel with men's NCAA D1 ice hockey and other teams as coordinated with the Athletics Director.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, including student-athlete well-being and compliance with NCAA healthcare requirements.
  • Provide advanced prevention and recovery strategies.
  • Maintain athlete management system (AMS) related to sports science data, load management, and analytics, in collaboration with the Director of Hockey Sports Performance.
  • Assist in managing student-athlete mental health alongside team physicians and licensed mental health providers.
  • Develop and oversee an annual sports medicine budget.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes and coaches during evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain athletic injury care records and reports according to national standards and NCAA, CCHA, and GLIAC guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
