Qualifications

  • Two years of hands-on experience or a Master's degree with related hands-on experience preferred.
  • NATA/BOC certification and Delaware licensure eligibility required or anticipated.

CONTEXT OF THE JOB

The Athletic Trainer I, at the University of Delaware is avalued member within the University and Department of Athletics,Community & Campus Recreation (DACCR), upholding and embracingthe departmental mission of Achieving Excellence Together. Underthe general direction of the Athletic Trainer II (Associate AT),the Athletic Trainer I position is responsible for assisting withall aspects of athletic training for an NCAA Division Iintercollegiate athletics program, spirit program and designatedclub sport program including, but not limited to rehabilitation ofathletic injuries/illnesses, injury evaluation, management, anddocumentation, treatment/preparation for practices andcompetitions, on-site coverage, supervision of athletic trainingstudents, and assigned team travel

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
  • Plans, organizes and delivers treatment/rehabilitation programsspecific to student athletes as medically prescribed by the SportsMedicine Physician or supervisor.

  • Advises and treats student athletes to maintain physical fitnessfor participation in athletic competitions; records and maintainsappropriate treatment/rehabilitation records forstudent-athletes.

  • Evaluates athletes physical condition, response and progress anddiscuss with appropriate physician and supervisor; informs coachesof status of athletes condition.

  • Maintains direct contact with the sports medicine doctors,coaching staff, strength & conditioning staff, Universityadministrators, student athletes and parents.

  • Interfaces with student athletes, staff, coaches, physicians,athletic trainers and auxiliary medical personnel for counselingpurposes and information exchange.

  • Provides athletic training coverage for designated sportsprograms, including practices, home and away contests.

  • Provides AT Room coverage during designated seasons.

  • Performs sport responsibilities as assigned by thesupervisor.

  • Provides medical emergency coverage to injured student athletesat practices and athletics events as needed.

  • Administers first aid until appropriate medical assistance canbe obtained.

  • Arranges for injured athletes to be seen by the team physicianor Student Health Center physician.

Supervision of Students
  • Supervises and educates athletic training students in a clinicalsetting.

  • Stays informed of developments in field; reads pertinentliterature.

  • Attends meetings and educational classes; participates inprofessional associations as appropriate.

Administrative
  • Performs job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required in Athletic Training and two years ofhands-on experience OR Masters degree (preferred) with relatedhands-on experience in conjunction with coursework.

  • In good standing with the National Athletic TrainingAssociation, Board of Certification.

  • National Athletic Trainers Association BOC certification.

  • State of Delaware Athletic Training licensure eligibility.

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, instructor certificationpreferred.

  • Experience as an approved clinical instructor (ACI) and with theclinical supervision of athletic training students enrolled in aCAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program.
