Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer will maintain and coordinate a comprehensive sports medicine program for Spalding University athletics under the leadership of the Head Athletic Trainer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform professional and administrative services essential for the success of the program under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer.
  2. Duties include injury prevention, emergency care, first aid, and physical rehabilitation of injuries incurred by Spalding University's intercollegiate athletes.
  3. Organize and conduct medically prescribed sports rehabilitation and conditioning programs following injuries, and be responsible for athletic insurance claim paperwork and follow-up as necessary.
  4. Supervise and participate in teaching graduate athletic training students enrolled in an innovative, new entry-level Master of Science Degree Program in Athletic Training. Some weekends and overnight travel are required.
  5. Other duties include practice and game supervision/coverage, effective communication with athletes, coaches, families, university officials, and physicians, and referring athletes for diagnostic procedures and injury tracking.

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Applicants must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and eligible for licensure in Kentucky.
  2. A Master’s degree and previous collegiate athletic training experience are preferred.
  3. Must have excellent communication, multitasking, and budget management skills, along with knowledge of NCAA regulations.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  5. Knowledge of and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  6. Understanding of and willingness to learn NCAA Division III academic and sports culture.
  7. A strong background in professional athletic training.
  8. Experience working with student-athletes at high school and collegiate levels.

Additional qualities include a commitment to inclusiveness, collegiality, and mentorship, alignment with Spalding University’s mission, and the ability to work with diverse populations. Must be able to enforce university Covid-19 and NCAA protocols.

  • Work closely with and communicate openly with the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Ability to listen, take guidance, and be accountable to the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills for diverse groups, including students, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under high workload and deadline pressures.
