General Summary:

The Senior staff member demonstrates leadership in meeting all responsibilities as outlined in the staff level job description. The Senior staff member leads departmental project(s), assumes supervisory responsibilities and serves as a mentor to other clinicians. The Senior staff member serves as a role model by supporting management, participating in program development and departmental, division, and hospital-wide initiatives. The Senior staff member provides leadership in the areas of patient care, education, advocacy and research.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Uses advanced clinical reasoning and skills in all aspects of clinical practice, including patient evaluation, patient treatment, parent/family education, communication with physicians, division staff, nursing, and others within and outside the Lurie Children’s system.

  • Demonstrates leadership in the establishment of protocols for best practice. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational materials. May also be involved in research activities.

  • Provides consultation to the greater health care community, as well as staff and students in department and division. Provides consultation to staff and students in department and division, collaborates with other departments and divisions in all aspects of patient care.

  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

  • Serves as a resource and orients and/or mentors others in research information in one or more clinical areas. Is recognized as department and/or community expert in one or more specialized clinical areas. (such as clubfoot, concussion, KIPP, etc.)

  • Develops, implements and reviews clinical best practices for continual quality improvement. Actively updates own knowledge base and clinical skills to remain current with the highest level of evidence. Participates in didactic education and research activities.

  • Actively pursues departmental advocacy initiatives (may include grant proposals, legislative affairs, presenting/speaking on educational programming, article submission to peer reviewed journals & industry publications, etc.)

  • Assists management by leading development of new programming and in daily operations, process improvement, as well as meeting department standards and goals.

  • Identifies and leads marketing and outreach opportunities.

  • Serves as role model in supporting mission, vision, policies and procedures of the department, division institution and community.

  • Assists and supports management and staff in adapting to a rapidly changing health care environment.

  • Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of master’s degree in health-related field with current NATA Board of Certification Inc. certification.

  • Current ATC License in the State of Illinois.

  • Minimum of four (4) years pediatric experience in athletic training at Lurie Children’s or comparable experience.

  • Experience in casting and/or bracing orthopaedic injuries, home exercise programs, injury treatment and prevention education and other departmental related competencies.

  • Certification in CPR from the American Heart Association by having completed the BLS AED Heartsaver Course.

Pay Range

$49,920.00-$81,619.20 Salary
