Job summary

Spire Orthopedic Partners seeks an Athletic Trainer to work with Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists (ONS) in partnership with Iona University Club Rugby. You will evaluate athletes, design rehab programs, and coordinate with physicians for optimal care.

You’ll provide first aid, modal therapies, and active injury prevention while maintaining EMR documentation and communication with coaches and staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or equivalent.
  • NATA certification/license valid in CT/NY.
  • Minimum one year experience as athletic trainer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate players' physical condition and advise/treat to maintain fitness for participation.
  • Prescribe routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.
  • Perform massage and soft tissue techniques to alleviate pain and restore function.
  • Render first aid to injured players and manage acute care.
  • Coordinate with physicians for care planning and referrals as needed.
  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation of care and events.
  • Assist with pre-participation and exit physicals.
  • Communicate treatment plans with coaches and medical staff.

Headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, the Spire network spans the Northeast with more than 165 physicians, 1,800 employees, 285 other clinical providers and 40 locations in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.What you’ll do:As an Athletic Trainer working with Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists (ONS) and in partnership with the Iona University Club Rugby. Responsibilities as noted below.Responsibilities/Duties:Evaluates physical condition and advises and treats players to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition.Prescribes routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.Performs massage and soft tissue techniques to alleviate pain, restore function/motion and diminish edema.Renders first aid to injured players, such as giving artificial respiration, cleaning and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing.Works with physicians to provide a continuum of care to patients.Utilizes wrapping/strapping techniques to prevent and help support injured areas.Uses modalities as appropriate for patient care.Confers with physical therapy team members individually and in conference to exchange, discuss, and evaluate player information for planning, modifying and coordinating treatment programs.Maintains accurate documentation of care of players in EMR.Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion.Assist with administration of pre-participation and exit physicalsActs as a liaison with the team physician and ONS physicians to refer athletes for evaluation and diagnostic imaging when warrantedCoordinates formal Physical Therapy, imaging, and follow-up appointments for athletes with allied healthcare professionalsRefers athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and/or treatment.Set-up and breakdown of all athletic training supplies needed for practices/gamesCommunication with coaches regarding treatment plan for injuries and adequate injury preventionDetermines if a player is capable of continued participation in a game and/or practice if the player is injuredOrganizes, inventories and requisitions medical team and team supplies.Performs other duties as assignedFollows all HIPAA rules as instructed.Follows ONS’ policies and procedures.Who you are:Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or equivalent.Holds valid NATA certification/license for athletic trainer in CT/NY StateMinimum one year experience as athletic trainer.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.What we offer:Excellent growth and advancement opportunitiesDynamic environmentAccess to a diverse network of practitionersBroad infrastructure of tools and programs to enhance the employee experienceCompetitive CompensationWe are an equal-opportunity employer.
