Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer assists physicians in providing care and interfacing between our community partners and our Children’s Orthopedic Center sports medicine team. The Athletic Trainer is part of a dynamic group that supports both in‑office clinic work and outreach with community partners based on varying needs. In the clinic, the Athletic Trainer will assist with patient intake, initial assessments, and post‑operative procedures and education. Athletic Trainers engaging in outreach assist with managing the care of athletes and the active population in the community, providing on‑site care for high school athletes and our Young Athletes Academy partners including injury prevention, emergency coverage, and athlete education.

Essential Functions

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements, hospital policies and procedures, and the Service Standards. They must also participate in ongoing education and training and adhere to safety and quality programs.

Community Outreach
  • Provides athletic training services with affiliated high schools and Young Athletes Academy partners to prevent injuries and maximize performance, ensuring a current Emergency Action Plan.
  • Prevents, recognizes, and evaluates athletic injuries; implements preventive and rehabilitation programs using appropriate therapeutic modalities.
  • Attends practices and athletic events, providing sideline and emergency medical coverage, including baseline concussion testing.
  • Assists with therapeutic treatment such as taping, wrapping, and bracing for preventive and protective treatment.
  • Consults with licensed physicians on injuries and treatment plans for patients and athletes.
  • Assists physicians with educational talks on injury prevention and nutrition.
  • Maintains daily records of treatment logs, injury reports and doctor’s referrals.
In‑Office Clinic
  • Prepares patient examination rooms before visits and cleans exam rooms afterward.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms, measures vital signs, documents medication history, and reconciles medications.
  • Performs initial screens and reports patient concerns and symptoms to licensed clinic personnel.
  • Pre‑charts, documents, and scribe under physician guidance.
  • Performs routine examination and treatment procedures including bandages, sutures, casts, wound cleaning, and medication application.
  • Provides patient education on individualized home exercise programs.
  • Assists Physical Therapists during sports motion analysis assessments and injury prevention exercises with electromyography.
  • Assists physicians with patient phone consultations and documentation.
  • Coordinates care for patients needing assistance with accessing and managing their health care needs.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications, is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a work‑related discipline from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None required.

License/Certification:

  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer by Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
  • Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • or RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support
Knowledge

  • Knows computer systems and software used in the functional area.
  • Knows the principles and practices of athletic training, including conditioning, injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation.
  • Knows therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological basis.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary may also be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range. Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $36.61 to $45.76
