Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Athletic Trainer.

The Athletic Trainer will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

We are seeking an Athletic Trainer to guide our middle school and high school students through interscholastic athletic programs, activities, and events. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for creating and improving athletic programs and developing and administering effective policies and procedures that ultimately keep student-athletes engaged athletically and promote positive academic and personal growth. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents of Harlem, and experience working in a school-based setting that fosters a love for children.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.
  • Maintain current state licensure in accordance with the New York Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners and maintain current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of coaching experience

Who you are

The Athletic Trainer, under the general supervision of a licensed physician and the Director of Athletics, plans and implements an approved program for athletic training, applicable to the elementary, middle and high school athletes, designed to provide prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Advises scholar-athletes and coaches on the prevention and care of athletic injuries. Provides Athletic Trainer coverage at athletic events. Assures appropriate maintenance of equipment and supplies assigned to the athletic training program; maintains records on examination and physical condition of scholar-athletes.

What you’ll do

  • Evaluate athletes' readiness to play, providing participation clearances, and conducting diagnostic tests to assess injuries
  • Provide immediate care for injuries during sports events and practices
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation plans for injured athletes
  • Teach athletes, coaches, and family members about injury prevention, conditioning, and care of injuries
  • Work closely with athletic directors, coaches, doctors and other healthcare providers to ensure the best possible care for athletes
  • Maintain thorough records of athletes' injuries, treatment plans, and progress

Schedule

  • Must be able to work 3pm to 7pm, Monday - Friday, and Saturdays 11 am to 4 pm
  • Attend every scheduled game
