Job description

Description
  1. Assesses the athlete’s condition, establishes goals, treatments and care plan in conjunction with the physician, athlete, family, and coaches.
  2. Ensures that appropriate treatment is performed in interdisciplinary fashion, consulting with physicians about impact of Athletic Training factors on the athlete’s health status.
  3. Documents findings, treatments and other patient information.
  4. Educates athlete/family on appropriate care and use of various therapies/exercises.
  5. Serves as information/education resource for athletes, families and school personnel.
  6. Serves as a resource to school personnel and Physicians.
  7. Coordinates athlete’s physician appointments and reports as needed to family and school personnel.
  8. Assists LOS in the development of Athletic Training and other ancillary programs.
  9. Working with the Physician clinics and Urgent Care for clinical and administrative assistance.
  10. Working with Rehabilitation Department for clinical and administrative assistance.
  11. Maintains patient/athlete confidentiality.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies for job position.

Requirements
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree. Current certification as an Athletic Trainer. CPR, AED, and Basic Life Support certification.
  • Two years’ experience in school coverage and/or out-patient orthopedics is preferred.
  • Must be BOC certified and possess Louisiana Athletic Training license.
  • Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard. Requires occasional support all size patients in transfers. Ability to lift 50 lbs. floor to waist. Demands of kneeling, squatting, overhead lifting, upper extremities motion, and strength to perform range of motion and mobilization exercises on patients.
  1. Knowledge of athletic training principles, standards and applications.
  2. Knowledge of clinic policies, procedures, regulations, safety/infection control, and quality control.
  3. Knowledge of how to use training equipment.
  4. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  5. Skill in appropriate evaluation and treatment of athletes in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  6. Skill in effectively communicating with physicians, coaches/school administrators, and families.
  7. Skill in using a computer system/EMR and spread sheets.
  8. Skill in accurate recognition of patient or athlete clinic danger and appropriate fall risk.
  9. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with athletes, providers and staff.
  10. Ability to supervise and mentor Athletic Training staff.
  11. Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
  12. Ability to be a resource to athletes and schools.
