Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite athletic training coverage at practices and contests.

Position Purpose

This is a Per Diem, temporary position. The purpose is to provide primary athletic health care for the men and women athletes of Dartmouth College and also athletes from visiting colleges / universities at selected events or contests. This will include onsite coverage of sports practices and/or contests, hosted by the Dartmouth College Athletic Department.

Required Qualifications
  • Skilled at the systematic evaluation of common athletic injuries
  • Knowledge and skill in the use and application of various electrical modalities, including ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, iontophoresis, and intermittent compression devices.
  • Knowledge and skill in the application of various taping and wrapping techniques to support injured muscles and joints.
  • Skilled at developing rehabilitation programs for a range of common athletic injuries.
  • Demonstrated ability effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing with colleagues, coaches, athletes and administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability, and willingness to work independently, and adapt to changing schedules
  • Maintain positive attitude during difficult situations.
  • Experience working with a wide range of both men’s and women’s athletic teams.
  • Experience at effectively treating both traumatic and overuse type injuries.
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine related field required.
  • Certification by the NATABOC.
  • Eligible for State of New Hampshire license.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a college or university athletic training work setting.
  • Master's degree in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine related field.
  • Additional, related certifications such as FMS, Active Release Techniques, Muscle Energy, Graston Technique and CSCS are highly valued and encouraged.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide onsite athletic training coverage at assigned athletic practices and or contests.
  • Evaluate athletic injuries to both men and women athletes using established protocols. Performs tests and manipulations to determine the extent and seriousness of injury.
  • Provide immediate on-site care for athletic injuries and refer injured athletes to appropriate medical care providers as is needed and the situation dictates.
  • Provide concussion evaluations following established protocols of the Dartmouth College Sports Medicine department.
  • Independently, and in conjunction with the team physician where appropriate, make determinations on return to play status.
  • Prepare athletes for practices and contests, including taping, bandaging, wrapping, assisting with warm-up, and stretching exercises.
  • Remain current on the latest developments and advances in sports medicine through journal review, attendance at conferences, seminars and clinics.
  • Maintain facilities, equipment, modalities and supplies. Must maintain a working knowledge of all equipment, and general preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Emergency Action Plans for each specific campus venue at which they are assigned, and be prepared to implement EAP as necessary.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
