Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Practices as physician extender under a directing physician in line with state practice act.
  • Assesses patients to tailor therapy and treatment needs with physician input.
  • Develops rehabilitation programs addressing short and long-term goals.
  • Educates patients on rehabilitation programs, health needs, injuries, prognosis and risks.
  • Coordinates care with other providers and documents required records.
  • Assists with marketing and community education efforts.
  • Performs casting, splinting, wound care and vital signs as needed.

As an Athletic Trainer, you'll deliver hands‑on care in our Orthopedic Clinic while providing top‑tier sports medicine coverage at community events, and offer support coverage at Caprock Academy and other contracted schools in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Job Specifics
  • Primarily supports the RAPID Walk‑In Orthopedic Clinic 3 days per week.
  • Schedule consists of three 12‑hour shifts each week.

Essential Functions
  • Practices as physician extender under a directing physician in accordance with state practice act.
  • Assesses patients to determine modifications of therapy and treatment needs in consultation with physician or other clinicians.
  • Develops rehabilitation programs that appropriately address patient's short and long‑term goals.
  • Demonstrates and helps patients execute prescribed therapeutic exercises per physician protocols.
  • Monitors patient's response to treatment.
  • Educates patients regarding rehabilitation programs, health needs, injuries, diagnosis, prognosis and risks.
  • Coordinates care with other patient care providers as appropriate. Completes appropriate documentation including reports, treatments, intake forms, message logs, etc.
  • Cleans, maintains, and inspects all necessary equipment (room, ultrasound machine, ECG, PRP, exercise). Reports repair and maintenance needs.
  • Actively engages in marketing and community educational programs. Attends to patient questions/messages for physician.
  • Performs duties for patients: casting, splinting, brace fitting, wound care and bandaging, taking vitals, drawing up medications, performing testing for illnesses such as flu, strep, etc.
  • Assists with procedures and concussion treatments.
  • Files paperwork correctly and assists with obtaining prior authorizations when needed for procedures, imaging, or medications.
  • Assists outreach ATCs as needed when proper documentation of supervising/directing physician for the Intermountain system is in place.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current license as an Athletic Trainer in the state of practice.
  • National athletic trainer certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Experience in a variety of computer programs including databases, word processing, and internet.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Related working experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication as well as hearing and understanding spoken information in emergencies.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, up to heavy items.
  • Required to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. Includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, possibly navigating crowded rooms.
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: expected to drive a vehicle requiring sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
Location

Rocky Mountain Orthopedics – Grand Junction, Colorado

Weekly Hours & Compensation

36 hours per week.

Hourly rate: $26.74 – $41.28, dependent upon experience.
