Job summary

Overview

Location: Travis Air Force Base, CaliforniaPosition: Athletic TrainerProgram: Holistic Health and Fitness (HHF) Support

Scope

The Athletic Trainer will provide Holistic Health and Fitness (HHF) support to Airmen assigned to the 621st Contingency Response Wing (CRW). HHF combines athletic training, functional strength, and mindfulness coaching to provide an integrated approach to holistic human development and better prepare Airmen for their operational missions.

The Athletic Trainer will support the delivery of evidence-based Human Performance (HP) programs designed to improve physical performance, reduce preventable injuries, support rehabilitation following injury, and enhance overall mission readiness.

Background

The 621st Contingency Response Wing requires Holistic Health and Fitness support to increase readiness and lethality, improve optimal physical and non-physical performance, reduce injury rates, improve rehabilitation after injury, and increase mindfulness among Airmen assigned to the Wing.

The program is intended to prepare Airmen to execute global mobility, airbase opening, and contingency response missions in austere, resource-limited, and rapidly changing environments.

Objectives

The Human Performance program is intended to:

  • Improve Airmen's mission-ready physical and mental performance.
  • Reduce preventable injuries.
  • Support improved rehabilitation following injury.
  • Improve strength, endurance, mobility, and durability.
  • Prepare Airmen for heavy load carriage, equipment movements, aircraft handling, security operations, and high-tempo mobility tasks.
  • Provide mission-specific Human Performance guidance based on the requirements of individual Air Force Specialty Codes.
  • Provide portable, field-ready performance guidance that Airmen can maintain without contractor presence.
  • Support sustained readiness across the CRW.

Hours of Operation

Services will be provided primarily during the military working day, with an expected workday of eight (8) hours. Due to the nature of the Human Performance mission, nonstandard work hours may periodically be required.

Specific duty locations and work times will be coordinated with the Government. Contractor personnel shall not exceed forty (40) hours per week. A flexible work schedule may be considered. No overtime or compensatory time is authorized.

*Position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting Human Performance evaluations.
  • Supporting mission-specific performance programming.
  • Supporting injury reduction and rehabilitation efforts.
  • Participating in individual squadron embedment on a rotational basis.
  • Coordinating with squadron Unit Fitness Program Managers (UFPMs).
  • Observing and guiding mandatory squadron physical training sessions as necessary.
  • Providing or supporting at least two physical training sessions per week during squadron embedment periods.
  • Providing tailored performance training, such as running clinics and weightlifting form training, at least twice per month.
  • Tailoring training sessions to the individual squadron's mission.
  • Supporting reporting and documentation requirements for assessments, training sessions, and outcomes.
Qualifications

The Athletic Trainer shall possess:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in athletic training.
  • Ability to be transported in Government-provided ground vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in sport psychology or sub-disciplines of intervention/performance enhancement, health/exercise psychology, cognitive psychology, counseling, and/or social psychology.
  • Athletic Trainer certification through an accredited organization.

Security Clerance & Installation Requirments

  • Possess a SECRET or provisional SECRET security clearance prior to starting work and maintain the required security clearance for the duration of the contract.
  • Comply with applicable security, safety, installation access, and force protection requirements.
  • Complete required background and installation access checks.
  • Obtain a Department of War Common Access Card (CAC), when required under the PWS.
  • Complete Antiterrorism Level I Awareness Training within 30 calendar days after contract start, with annual completion required.
  • Comply with applicable Operational Security (OPSEC) requirements.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Pass required illegal drug screening.
  • Maintain all required certifications throughout contract performance.
  • Possess the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office and standard office automation tools.

The Athletic Trainer will also be required to attend the 621st CRW Devil Development course within the first 90 days of contract performance to develop an understanding of the CRW organization, structure, and mission.
