Job summary

Xavier University is seeking two Athletic Trainers to care for student-athletes in a multi-sport program in Cincinnati, Ohio. This role covers prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation following NCAA, NATA, and state guidelines, including Graston technique and dry needling under supervision.

The 10-month position runs August through May, with responsibilities across team and individual sports, daily clinic operations, and collaboration with physicians, strength and conditioning staff, and campus

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited program.
  • BOC certification or eligible to obtain certification; Ohio license or eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Care, prevention, and rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries under supervision.
  • Oversee athletic training room operations, record keeping, supplies, and inventory.
  • Assist in drug education, safety training, and data monitoring.
  • Supervise and train student athletic trainers; coordinate with team physicians and staff.
  • Attend practices, games, and championships as assigned.

Athletic Trainer

Xavier University is looking to hire two Athletic Trainers that will be responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of all athletic-related injuries to Xavier University Student Athletes. The Athletic Trainer will follow all divisional protocols and procedures as written following Xavier, NCAA, NATA and State of Ohio Board (OTPTAT). Vital to the referral of student-athletes for athletic-related injuries, physical and mental health issues. Perform various very specialized techniques/services such as Graston Technique, dry needling. This is a 10-month Athletic Trainer position working from August - May.

Job Responsibilities:

1. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of all athletic-related injuries to Xavier University student-athletes while working cooperatively with, and under the direction of, the team physician and the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine in providing the following for all sports:

  • Oversight of the rehabilitation of student athletes.
  • Referrals to health services including counseling services.
  • Assistance in examinations and screenings
  • Work with Beacon Orthopedics, TriHealth, and other health-care providers, and Xavier Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Service and other relevant entities to support student athletes.
  • Weekly reporting of injuries to and other relevant parties.
  • Assume responsibility for one team sport and one individual sport, as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, which shall include attend all practices and competitions for the team sport; attend all home events for all individual sports; attend the Big East Championship for all sports for whom they have been assigned.
  • Perform a variety of specific medical techniques (dry needling, Graston technique, IV solutions).

2. Oversee daily athletic training room operations under the direct supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine which include:

  • Exercise rehabilitation and therapy programs.
  • Medical record keeping. Requisition, storage, distribution, and maintenance of supplies.
  • Inventory and budget allocation.
  • Making yearly purchase requests as directed.
  • Tracking of supplies.

3. Assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine with:

  • On-site testing and implementation of drug education.
  • The annual Coaches' Safety Training.
  • All data monitoring (i.e. Health Athlete, SWAY).
  • The day-to-day care and oversight of the Training Room Pharmacy.

4. Assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine in the supervision of Student Athletic Trainers assigned to the Xavier Sports Medicine Facilities:

  • Assignments.
  • Training.
  • Teaching.
  • Evaluating.
  • Liaison to Clinical Coordinator for yearly in-service for Athletic Training Students.
Job Requirements:
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited program required.
  • Current certification through the Board of Certification (BOC), or eligible to obtain certification.
  • Current state athletic training license (Ohio), or eligible for licensure.
  • Professional CPR/AED Certification.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
