Job summary

Hill Country Christian School of Austin is seeking a Texas-licensed athletic trainer to advance student-athlete health, safety, and development. This role involves injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care under the Athletic Director, in collaboration with coaches and staff.

You will supervise the student athletic trainer program, provide structured mentorship, and ensure safe participation in all athletic activities across practices and games.

Qualifications

  • Valid Texas Athletic Trainer License (LAT)
  • Proficiency in injury evaluation, emergency procedures, rehabilitation protocols, exercise physiology and therapeutic modalities
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of athletic administration

Responsibilities

  • Injury prevention and risk management for on-site events
  • Identify high-risk sports and ensure adequate coverage
  • Implement injury-prevention strategies, taping, bracing, and warm-up protocols
  • Ensure safe facility conditions for all activities including heat and weather monitoring
  • Provide evaluation and treatment for injuries during practices and competitions
  • Deliver first aid, emergency care, and acute injury management
  • Maintain professional judgment in return-to-play decisions with physicians
  • Develop and supervise rehabilitation programs for injured athletes
  • Apply therapeutic modalities as appropriate and track progress
  • Maintain athletic training facility and equipment, keep records of athletes
  • Coordinate examination dates for all sports
  • Assign and supervise student athletic trainers at events
  • Provide training and mentorship for student trainers
  • Collaborate with coaches, administrators, and medical professionals
  • Enforce discipline, sportsmanship, safety expectations
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold school policies
  • Stay current with best practices and evolving techniques
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director

Job description

Position Purpose

To advance the gospel and the mission of Hill Country Christian School by supporting the health, safety, and development of student-athletes. This is accomplished by providing expert athletic training care, promoting injury prevention and rehabilitation, fostering character formation through disciplined and excellent athletic programs, and demonstrating godly interaction with students, families, and school faculty and staff.

Accountability

Reports to the Athletic Director

FlSA Status

Exempt, Open to Full-time or Part-time

Requires flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends for game-day operations

Overview

Provide athletic training services for all student‑athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care. Work under the direction of the Athletic Director, and in collaboration with coaches and administrators to ensure safe participation in athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Implement injury‑prevention strategies, taping, bracing, and warm‑up protocols.
  • Ensure safe facility conditions for all athletic activities, including heat and severe weather monitoring.
Injury Evaluation & Treatment
  • Provide evaluation and treatment for injuries during practices and competitions.
  • Deliver first aid, emergency care, and acute injury management.
  • Maintain professional judgment in return‑to‑play decisions in coordination with physicians.
Rehabilitation & Reconditioning
  • Develop and supervise rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
  • Apply therapeutic modalities (heat, cold, light, sound, electrical, mechanical) as appropriate.
  • Track athlete progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Program Administration

Maintain the athletic training facility, including , equipment maintenance and supply inventory.

Keep accurate records for all athletes, including:

  • Physicals
  • Emergency forms
  • Injury reports
  • Treatment logs
  • Rehab protocols

Coordinate physical examination dates for all sports.

Student Athletic Trainer Program
  • Assign and supervise student athletic trainers at all competitive events.
  • Provide structured training and mentorship for student trainers.
Collaboration & Professional Conduct
  • Work closely with coaches, administrators, and medical professionals.
  • Enforce discipline, sportsmanship, and safety expectations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold school policies.
  • Stay current with best practices and evolving techniques in athletic training.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Athletic Director in support of the Athletics Department
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently move about inside campus buildings and outside on the grounds.
  • Frequently communicate with co-workers and others. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations whether in person, via email or telephone.
  • Possess the physical stamina to meet the demands of field care, event coverage and emergency response.
  • Regularly be able to lift between 5 to 50 pounds.
  • Must be flexible and adapt to various settings, schedules, and changes.
  • Must be willing to travel with athletes to away contests and possible overnight stays.
  • Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
  • Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
