Job summary

Position: Assistant Baseball Coach/Facilities Manager

Purpose:

The Assistant Baseball Coach supports the Head Baseball Coach in the administration of the Lincoln University baseball program. The Assistant Baseball Coach is responsible for assisting with the administration of baseball activities delegated by the Head Baseball Coach. The Assistant Baseball Coach also conducts daily responsibilities while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and institutional guidelines and policies as well as facility maintenance and preparation for athletic home events and designated external rentals of university athletic facilities.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee position group/area as designated by the Head Baseball Coach.
  • Coach at practices/games and working individually with student-athletes on skills development.
  • Teach sport-specific fundamentals and strategies to student-athletes.
  • Identify and recruit academically qualified student-athletes.
  • Reinforce the priority of student-athlete graduation.
  • Actively support the endeavors and advancements of Lincoln Athletics Department.
  • Promote the academic and athletic well-being of student-athletes.
  • Operate within the guidelines of Lincoln University, GLVC and NCAA Rules and Regulations.
  • Develop and maintain quality relationships within the community both on and off campus.
  • Travel may be required as it relates to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Set up, monitor, and break down athletic facilities for home athletic events and designated external rentals of athletic facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Baseball Coach or VP of Athletics

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited four-year college or university required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated a minimum of 1 year of successful Division I coach experience, Division II preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage young people.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and success in teaching the skills and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • The ability to organize and motivate the student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievement.
  • Proven experience in recruiting highly motivated and qualified student-athletes.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in working with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the institution, GLVC and Division II athletics preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet university’s insurance requirements for driving college vehicles required.
  • Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically related activities as defined by the NCAA.
  • Position requires extensive internal face to face contact, telephone, email, mailing and other mediums of dialogue with university personnel. Significant interaction faculty, staff, and students on a daily basis; Work extensively with other departments on campus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or NCAA and MIAA regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence (i.e. recruiting letters).
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of media, administrators, faculty, staff, students, public groups and/or Board of Curators.
  • Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines and telephone systems.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, working on a computer, domestic traveling and standing on field.
  • The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. During game conditions, the noise level is often loud.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
