Overview

Athletic School Bus Driver for Framingham Public Schools (Department of Transportation). Position for the 2025-2026 school year. Hours are as needed for athletic events; afternoon hours fluctuate by season. Reimbursement for Massachusetts School Bus Certificate renewal. CDL Class B and Passenger Certificate required (School Bus certificate preferred but not required).

Position Summary

An athletic school bus driver provides clean, safe, and reliable transportation for students to and from school, as well as to and from athletic events. Drivers are responsible for transporting students to and from athletic event locations and ensuring passenger safety during transit.

Certificates & Licenses

A hiring bonus of $1,000 will be provided to anyone who holds all of the following on the first date of employment.

  • Class A or B CDL license
  • Passenger Endorsement
  • School Bus Endorsement

Bus drivers work without direct supervision and are solely responsible for passenger safety. The role may involve high-stress situations, supervising a wide variety of individuals, and occasional evening work to transport students to school-related activities. A clean driving record, reliable work habits, timely reporting for runs, and completion of mandated license renewals and background checks are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensure passenger safety.
  • Follow the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
  • Conduct mandatory pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Report routine maintenance or repairs in writing to the Director of Transportation.
  • Monitor and report fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger numbers.
  • Report delays, accidents, and emergencies.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with District policies and procedures.
  • Inspect the vehicle before and after each trip.
  • Assist with loading and unloading the bus as required.
  • Enforce conduct and safety rules on the bus; report inappropriate student behavior to the Director of Transportation.
  • Maintain a clean vehicle.
  • Support students.
  • Other duties, as assigned, not inconsistent with the position.

  • Must be able to move about and may traverse the bus;
  • Must often remain in a stationary position for extended periods (prolonged sitting and driving in various weather conditions);
  • Work indoors and outdoors in inclement weather; exposure to temperature extremes, vibrations, and noise;
  • Lift, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, occasionally heavier;
  • Reach with hands and arms; sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb stairs;
  • Use hands to handle and grasp tools with hand strength;
  • Assist students with physical difficulties;
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • See and hear continuously to ensure student safety and provide instruction;
  • Move quickly across even or uneven surfaces if needed;
  • Directly responsible for student safety and well-being;
  • Majority of workday spent inside the bus; some time may be outdoors;
  • May be exposed to bodily fluids, disease, or pathogens;
  • May encounter unanticipated injuries from aggressive students;
  • May require physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling behavior.
