Job summary

The Rockford Park District seeks an Athletic Fields Maintenance 1 to uphold safe, clean, and playable parks. This seasonal role supports grounds, buildings, and athletic fields through routine maintenance and careful operation of tools and equipment.

You will follow safety requirements, assist with field marking and fertilization, and collaborate with the Athletic Fields Maintenance Supervisor to deliver high-quality park experiences for the community.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to follow direction from Maintenance Supervisor.
• CPR and First Aid Certification may be obtained through the Rockford Park District.
• Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Receives and completes daily work orders as directed.
• Performs maintenance duties to the buildings, grounds, and equipment according to required specifications for safety and appearance.
• Performs routine cleaning of building, floors, windows, restrooms, carpets, trash removal, grounds, sidewalks, and trash pick-up.
• Operates pole saw, table saws, band saws, drills, string trimmers, landscape blowers and other hand tools as required.
• Ensures all work is conducted safely and timely with proper equipment use.
• Maintain athletic fields through grass trimming and fertilization.
• Maintain baseball diamonds for safety and playability.
• Precisely mark soccer, baseball, and other athletic fields according to regulations.
• Assist with delivery of supplies to various buildings.
• Safely operate park district vehicles and machinery.

Ensures the Rockford Park District's parks are safe, clean, and enjoyable through proper maintenance and operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Operational Excellence

• Effectively and safely operates pole saw, table saws, band saws, drills, string trimmers, landscape blowers and other hand tools as required to get the job done.
• Ensures that all work performed is conducted in a safe and timely manner adhering to standards of cleanliness and effective equipment utilization.
• Ensure the quality of athletic fields through grass trimming and fertilization.
• Maintain baseball diamonds for safety and playability.
• Precisely mark soccer, baseball, and other athletic fields according to regulations.
• Utilize the Rockford Park District's HRIS system for all HR and payroll-related requirements and to accurately clock in and out for all shifts.
• Assists with delivery of supplies to various buildings

Safety/Inspection

• Become thoroughly familiar with the Safety Manual contents.
• Safely operate park district vehicles and machinery
• Performs frequent routine safety checks on buildings, grounds, and equipment; files safety reports as required.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all general and departmental - specific safety rules.
• Inspect work areas (use checklists) for compliance with safe work practices and rules.
