Job summary

Hazel Crest School District 152.5 is seeking a leader to manage and coordinate the district's athletic activities and programs, promoting athletics and physical fitness as valuable extracurricular experiences for all students.

This role oversees program administration, staff selection and supervision, interscholastic scheduling, travel, meals, transport, and adherence to eligibility rules, while safeguarding budget integrity and representing the district at league and state meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution is required or preferred for stipend role.
  • Experience directing school district athletic programs is preferred.
  • Ability to relate to all people in a positive manner; strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and administer the overall athletic program.
  • Provide leadership in selection, assignment, and evaluation of coaches and staff.
  • Supervise athletic events, including State Tournaments, with travel as needed.
  • Coordinate transportation for athletes and ensure meals when events are distant.
  • Set eligibility rules and manage interscholastic scheduling.
  • Develop annual recognition programs and oversee facility use.

JOB SUMMARY

To manage and coordinate the school district athletic activities and sports programs to promote athletics and physical fitness as positive extra-curricular activities, and to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate and share in the benefits of the district's athletic programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for the organization and administering of the overall athletic program.
  • Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
  • Supervision of all athletic events, including State Tournaments which may require travel and or over night stays outside of local area.
  • Must be available to travel between buildings without interfering regularly assigned duties (in candidate in a current District employee)
  • Works collaboratively with the school district and community agencies and athletic program to include a variety of recreational and sports activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all inter-scholastic athletic events.
  • Schedules officials and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
  • Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches when opponent is 50 miles or more from a district boundary line.
  • Ensures the coordination of transportation for athletic contest participants with district transportation lead.
  • Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletes.
  • Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verifies each athlete's eligibility.
  • Manages the athletic program budget in conjunction with Director of Business Services.
  • Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for game management at all home interscholastic contest, and when admission is charged, is responsible for the safekeeping and deposit of monies collected.
  • Coordinates practice schedules for all athletic teams.
  • Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.
  • Responsible for determining scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams.
  • Coordinates the use of athletic facilities with the respective building principal and by groups outside the district.
  • Assumes responsibility for assignment of keys to athletic facilities and gymnasium.
  • Represents the school in all athletic business at league, conference and state meetings.
  • Adheres to the requirements of State Law and school district policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university. This is a stipend position internal candidates preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Successful experience managing or directing the athletic programs of a school district preferred.

Successful Supervisory experience preferred.
