Job summary

Port Huron Area School District is seeking a dedicated Sideline and Competition Cheer Coach for Fort Gratiot Middle School. The role covers fall and winter seasons, overseeing practice sessions, game-day operations and athlete development.

Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for all program matters including player personnel, practices, equipment care, and supervision.
  • Enforce rules and policies per school, district, league, and state associations.
  • Communicate effectively with players, officials, coaches, parents, and staff.
  • Ensure safety and welfare of athletes during practices and games.
  • Respond to directions from athletic directors and administrators.
  • Support activities promoting a coordinated athletic program district-wide.
  • Participate in CPR, concussion, and first aid training and professional growth.

Position: Sideline and Competition Cheer Coach

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have documented evidence of organizational skills, knowledge, experience, preparation and aptitudes in the above sport commensurate with the level of the position.

  1. Must have demonstrated ability to work with and motivate young people and adults.
  2. Must be available during the time requirements of the position.
  3. Certification in CPR and first aid preferred.
  4. Must be able to bend, twist, stoop, squat and lift up to 50 pounds in assisting students, if needed.
RESPONSIBILITES

Directly responsible for all matters relative to program including but not limited to, player personnel, practice sessions, care and maintenance of equipment and supervision of players during practice, games, travel and other team functions.

  1. Be knowledgeable of and consistently enforce school, District, League and state association (MHSAA) rules and policies.
  2. Effectively communicate with players, officials, fellow coaches, parents, administrators and community members.
  3. Ensure that the safety and welfare of the athletes is a top priority in the organization and implementation of practice and game situations.
  4. Be responsive to instructions and directions of the building Athletic Director, District Director of Athletics and other appropriate school administrators.
  5. Support and promote activities designed to further the District’s goal of a coordinated, sequential athletic program.
  6. Participate in activities designed to contribute to program and professional growth, including CPR, Concussion and first aid training.
  7. Present a professional image and provide a positive role model in terms of personal habits, language and conduct.
