Job Overview

Title: Athletic Coach – Head Men’s Volleyball, Southeast Alamance High School, Haw River, North Carolina. Job type: Part‑time. The coach reports to the Athletic Director & Principal and is exempt under FLSA.

Position Purpose

The Athletic Coach provides coaching expertise and guidance to student athletes for the duration of the sports season. Responsibilities include teaching good sportsmanship, modeling appropriate techniques, ensuring safe practices, and serving as a positive role model for students, the school, and the school system.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Training in Physical Education or particular sport

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or a related field
• Minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience at the middle or high school level
• NC Certification as Teacher, preferably in Physical Education

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Implement and enforce Athletic Policies and state/conference regulations
• Attend all required public, staff, and department meetings
• Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques for the sport
• Design conferences, training clinics, and staff meetings to maintain program awareness
• Encourage professional growth through clinic attendance according to local policy
• Delegate duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate staff effectiveness at season’s end
• Maintain discipline, address grievances, and increase morale and cooperation
• Assist with scheduling, transportation, and tournament requirements
• Prepare for scheduled sport events and practices, adhering to facility times
• Coordinate practices with maintenance and school employees
• Provide documentation for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility
• Ensure proper safeguards for equipment and facilities
• Advise on concerns, recommend policy changes, and provide training rules
• Monitor student academic eligibility and conduct
• Attend all practices and games
• Initiate injury and medical emergency policies and submit required paperwork within 24 hours
• Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians
• Handle discipline procedures and communicate with parents when necessary
• Assist athletes in college or advanced educational selection
• Participate in budgeting with the Athletic Director, establishing next season’s requirements
• Specify equipment guidelines and manage equipment inventory and maintenance
• Ensure cleanliness and safety of locker rooms, fields, and equipment rooms
• Promote the sport within and outside the school, recruiting new athletes
• Maintain public relations with media, Booster Club, parents, volunteers, and fans
• Present information to media regarding schedules, tournaments, and results
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal

Education, Training & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED
• Additional coursework or training in Physical Education or a particular sport
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Certification & License

• Valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
