MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS COACH DUTIES --

Minneapolis Public Schools Coaches are teachers of athletic activities. They have specific duties and responsibilities, including:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Monitor and support the academic progress of athletes, aiding them in meeting eligibility requirements and maximizing academic potential.
  2. Be responsible for instruction and supervision of fundamentals and program direction to ensure each athlete has an equal opportunity to improve.
  3. Abide by the rules of the game in letter and spirit.
  4. Support and adhere to school, district, state, and national policies and philosophies.
  5. Maintain an up-to-date list of team members by grade and ID number.
  6. Provide a safe environment free of hazards.
  7. Maintain exemplary conduct at practices and games, reflecting respect and courtesy towards all.
  8. Plan and supervise practices, including conditioning programs, to facilitate athlete improvement.
  9. Understand and practice injury prevention and care.
  10. Attend rules interpretation meetings annually and hold preseason meetings with parents and athletes.
  11. Understand and support eligibility rules, assisting in counseling students to maintain eligibility.
  12. Assist with record-keeping, including physical exams, eligibility, permissions, insurance, participation fees, transportation, and awards.
  13. Help establish a non-conference schedule and coordinate transportation as needed.
  14. Develop and implement an awards (lettering) policy.
  15. Communicate expectations regarding attendance, attitude, communication procedures, squad size, bus procedures, etc., at initial and subsequent team meetings.
  16. Submit a statement on promoting multiculturalism, gender fairness, and support for students with disabilities.
  17. Supervise students during practices, games, and transportation, ensuring safety and security of facilities and athletes.
