MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS COACH DUTIES

Minneapolis Public Schools Coaches are teachers of athletic activities. They have specific duties and responsibilities, including:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Monitor and support the academic progress of athletes, helping them meet eligibility requirements and maximize academic potential.
  2. Instruct and supervise fundamentals and program direction to ensure equal opportunity for improvement.
  3. Abide by the rules of the game in letter and spirit.
  4. Support and adhere to school, district, state, and national policies and philosophies.
  5. Maintain an up-to-date list of team members by grade and ID number.
  6. Provide a safe environment free of hazards.
  7. Maintain exemplary conduct during practices and games, demonstrating respect and courtesy towards all.
  8. Plan, organize, and supervise practices, including conditioning programs.
  9. Practice proper injury care and prevention.
  10. Attend yearly rules meetings and hold preseason meetings with parents and athletes.
  11. Understand and support eligibility rules, counseling students as needed.
  12. Assist with record keeping, scheduling, and establishing awards policies.
  13. Communicate expectations clearly to athletes and staff regarding attendance, conduct, and procedures.
  14. Promote multiculturalism, gender fairness, and inclusion of students with disabilities.
  15. Supervise student athletes during all team activities and ensure safety protocols are followed, including transportation and facility security.
