Position Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (TBD)

Position Overview:

Wagner College seeks an energetic, collaborative, and student-centered individual to serve as the College Band Director, also referred to as the Athletic Band or Marching Band. This individual will be responsible for the overall leadership, growth, and artistic direction of the program, which performs at home football and basketball games and represents the College in a variety of public and campus events.

The Band Director’s primary responsibility is to build and develop the College Band program through strategic and continuous recruitment efforts, both on and off campus. The ideal candidate will cultivate effective partnerships with regional high school music programs and work closely with college departments to promote the visibility and growth of the ensemble.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct and conduct the Wagner College Band (Athletic Band) at designated
    performances, including all home football and basketball games.
  • Build and implement a comprehensive recruitment plan, including active outreach to
    prospective and current students.
  • Cultivate relationships with high school band directors and music educators to
    increase program visibility and enrollment.
  • Visit high school music programs and establish partnerships with local and regional
    schools to promote the College Band.
  • Represent Wagner College at conferences, festivals, competitions, and other events to
    support recruitment and program development.
  • Maintain and manage an inventory of instruments, uniforms, and other equipment;
    procure new equipment as necessary in collaboration with the Athletic Department.
  • Coordinate the band audition process in partnership with the Office of Admissions and
    support recruitment-related communications.
  • Monitor participation and engagement of student band members receiving athletic
    stipends to ensure fulfillment of performance obligations.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to track and support applicants who have
    been recruited for the band program.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and educational environment that promotes musicianship,
    leadership, and school spirit.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience directing marching or athletic bands at the high school, collegiate, or drum corps level.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to arrange music and visual design for performances is preferred.
  • Experience working collaboratively across departments and with diverse student populations.
  • Proven track record of student recruitment and community engagement is highly desirable.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and employment status (full-time or part-time).
