Title: Field Technician – Ciena 6500/WaveServer (AT&T Certified)

Location: Project is all over in US, so candidates from any location are considered (Ready to Travel)

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Field Technician with hands-on expertise in Ciena 6500 and WaveServer platforms, preferably AT&T-certified, to join our growing field operations team. This role involves the deployment, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of optical transport equipment across metro and long-haul networks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, provision, and maintain Ciena 6500 and WaveServer optical transport equipment.
• Perform fiber characterization, including OTDR, power meter, and light source testing.
• Configure and test DWDM/ROADM networks in both metro and long-haul environments.
• Work directly with NOC teams and client-side engineers to turn up and validate services.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware and fiber issues at remote sites.
• Provide detailed documentation of work performed, including site survey reports and test results.
• Adhere to AT&T standards, safety protocols, and installation guidelines.
• Coordinate with vendors, construction teams, and clients to ensure timely project delivery.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

• 3+ years of experience working with Ciena 6500, WaveServer Ai/5 platforms.
• AT&T installation certification or demonstrated experience on AT&T network builds.
• Strong understanding of optical networking concepts: DWDM, SONET, Ethernet.
• Proficient in using fiber testing tools (OTDR, OSA, power meter, etc.).
• Experience reading and interpreting fiber plans, rack elevations, and network drawings.
• Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with WaveLogic coherent optics.
• Knowledge of Ciena Site Manager (CSM) or Blue Planet tools.
• OSHA 10/30 certification.
• Previous experience with AT&T projects (cradling, FOA, closeout packages).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working in telecom environments (data centers, COs, remote huts).
• Willingness to travel to remote sites when needed.
