Job summary

Nippon Sanso Matheson is seeking a Mechanical Reliability Trainer to develop, execute, and manage comprehensive training programs for mechanical technicians and reliability personnel across the ASU fleet. The role drives progression, ensures competency, and serves as the SME for all mechanical condition monitoring activities.

The ideal candidate will lead program development, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with operations and reliability leadership to align with business needs.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on mechanical maintenance in heavy industrial environments.
  • 7+ years supporting mechanical condition monitoring programs (vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication, alignment/balancing).
  • 5+ years developing or delivering technical training.
  • 5+ years performing or supporting condition monitoring programs (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver curricula for rotating equipment, compressors, cryogenic systems.
  • Manage progression schedules and track competency milestones.
  • Provide SME guidance on mechanical condition monitoring and RCA.
  • Ensure training records and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The ASUMechanical Reliability Trainer is responsible for developing, executing, andmanaging comprehensive mechanical training programs that support the technicaldevelopment of mechanical technicians, performance technicians, and reliabilitypersonnel across Nippon Sanso Matheson’s Bulk Operations organization. Thisrole maintains and manages structured progression schedules, ensuring employeesadvance through defined competency levels in alignment with operational andreliability expectations. The trainer also serves as the subject matter expertfor all mechanical condition monitoring programs, providing technicalleadership, program oversight, and continuous improvement to strengthenmechanical reliability across Nippon Sanso Matheson’s ASU fleet.

Essential Functions
Mechanical Training Program Development & Delivery
  • Develop, update, and deliver mechanical training curricula covering rotating equipment, static equipment, compressors, pumps, cryogenic machinery, and ASU specific mechanical systems.
  • Conduct classroom, hands on, and field based training for mechanical and performance technicians.
  • Create training materials, assessments, certification pathways, and competency evaluations.
  • Ensure training content reflects current industry standards, OEM guidance, and NSM best practices.
Progression Program Management
  • Maintain and manage progression schedules for mechanical technicians and performance technicians.
  • Track individual development plans, training milestones, and competency achievements.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to support employee growth.
  • Collaborate with operations and reliability leadership to ensure progression expectations align with business needs.
Mechanical Condition Monitoring Expertise
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for mechanical condition monitoring programs.
  • Develop and maintain standards, procedures, and best practices for mechanical condition monitoring.
  • Support troubleshooting, failure investigations, and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Support reliability improvement initiatives across ASU sites.
Program Administration & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate training records, documentation, and certification files.
  • Ensure training programs comply with internal policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate training schedules with operations, engineering, and reliability teams.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and implement continuous improvement strategies.

Work Experience
  • 7+ yearshands on mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industrial, continuousprocess, or rotating equipment intensive environments such as: ASU,Petrochemical, Refining, Power Generation isRequired
  • 7+ years ofexperience performing or supporting mechanical condition monitoring programs,including vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication analysis, andalignment/balancing is Required
  • 5+ years ofexperience developing or delivering technical training is Required
  • 5+ years ofexperience performing or supporting condition monitoring programs is Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of ASU mechanical systems, including compressors, expanders, pumps, heat exchangers, and cryogenic equipment.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment fundamentals, mechanical integrity, and reliability engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and methodologies (CBM, RCM, FMEA).
  • Understanding of lubrication systems, alignment techniques, and vibration fundamentals.
Skills
  • Ability to design and deliver effective technical training for diverse skill levels.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation abilities.
  • Skilled in curriculum development, competency assessment, and progression planning.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Licenses/Certifications
  • Certification Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) isPreferred
  • Certification Root Cause Analysis (RCA) facilitatortraining is Preferred
  • Certification Vibration Analysis Certification (ISOCat I or II) is Required
  • Certification Certified Maintenance & ReliabilityTechnician (CMRT) is Preferred
  • Certification OEM specific mechanical equipmenttraining is Preferred
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
  • PhysicalDemands: While performingduties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reachwith hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, bend and twist, talk andhear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, equipment, tools or controls.

  • WorkingCondition This role will be performed in office environments as well as in industrial field environments. While performing duties of this job it would occasionally be required to: Be exposed to moving mechanicalparts and extreme cold (e.g. operating plant). Be exposed to outside weatherconditions (e.g. cold box valves, filling trailers). Be exposed to high, precariousplaces (e.g. cold box, repair work). Be exposed to high noise levels(e.g. Plant rounds, maintenance).
  • WorkingCondition May also be required to work from a home location, which must be conducive to performingthe role and duties, including virtual/video meetings.
  • WorkingCondition Must sign NDA, have a clean driving record and pass background check and drug test.
Travel Requirements

Estimated25% Ability to travel and required to provide weekend and evening support asneeded.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $120,000 to $140,000 per year.
