Job summary

Flatiron Institute's Center for Computational Astrophysics in New York City invites postdoctoral Flatiron Software Research Fellows to pursue independent software development and astrophysical research. Fellows will contribute to high-impact software projects and collaborate across Flatiron centers.

FSRFs are two-year appointments (renewable) with a research budget and access to HPC resources. Start dates range from late August to early October 2027, with opportunities for mentoring and career

Qualifications

• PhD in a related field before appointment.
• Ability to develop and/or contribute to open-source software projects.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to do original research in astrophysics.
• Ability to present research and other types of work, internally and externally.
• Expertise in technical elements of computational astrophysics research (algorithm/software development; data analysis; modeling; ML).
• Effective oral and written communication and data documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, maintain, and support scientific software relevant to astrophysics.
• Engage in astrophysical research using computational and/or theoretical tools.
• Organize CCA and Flatiron-wide seminars, workshops, and meetings; mentor students.
• Assist in manuscript preparation and presentations at conferences; contribute to software tutorials.
