Job description

Astrodynamics Engineer (Entry-Level) – Millennium Space Systems Company: Millennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), is a fast, agile small satellite company focused on national security space. Our missions have direct impact to global security, like missile warning and Earth observation. Our team is curious, bold and innovative. We take risks, innovate and explore new techniques and technologies. We influence change because we challenge the status quo. And when we watch our satellites launch, we know each one of us made it happen.

Job Summary

The Astrodynamics Team is responsible for conducting a range of modeling, simulation, and analyses in areas such as space mission design, trajectory design, orbital maneuvers, orbit estimation, space debris collision and avoidance analyses, and space domain awareness. Engineers in the Astrodynamics group are integral throughout the entire program lifecycle, providing mission design inputs, maneuver plans to meet mission objectives, as well as console support for on‑orbit operations. They are directly responsible for determining the necessary capability of the satellite’s propulsion system and successfully maneuvering vehicles during flight operations. They oversee the orbital Concept‑of‑Operations (CONOPS) from inception to on‑orbit operations, and through to end‑of‑life disposal. As an Astrodynamics Engineer, you will support execution of technical design, analysis, and operation for a given program, study, or proposal. You will run orbital analysis tools under the supervision of a project or technical lead. You will assess the performance of our systems against subsystem and system level requirements. In addition, you may be asked to present technical results at design reviews or customer meetings. This position’s internal job code is Guidance, Navigation & Controls. Our team is currently hiring for levels 1‑2.

Responsibilities
  • Perform astrodynamics and orbit analyses
  • Receiving astrodynamics requirements and assessing performance to meet customer requirements and perform customer missions
  • Optimize spacecraft trajectories based on fuel, time, and/or performance characteristics
  • Research and evaluate state‑of‑the‑art ground and space‑based sensors, constellation design, and satellite maneuver strategies
  • System analysis support
  • Mission operations tool development and support
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis (1+ years)
  • Experience with orbit design and simulation software tools (e.g. GMAT, STK, COTS mission planning tools, etc.) (1+ years)
  • Experience utilizing scientific computing software (MATLAB and/or Python) (1+ years)
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or PhD in aerospace engineering or other related technical or engineering discipline
  • 2+ years industry experience in orbit analysis role(s) (may substitute advanced degrees for industry experience)
  • Experience with rendezvous and proximity operations or formation flight
  • Experience with orbit determination and parameter estimation techniques (Batch and Sequential Estimation, Angles Only, Range Measurements, etc.)
  • Technical leadership capability, including requirements generation and ability to serve as responsible engineering authority (REA).
  • Active Top Secret security clearance
