Job summary

The Steamship Authority seeks a skilled Vessel Maintenance Supervisor to assist the Vessel Maintenance Manager in supervising all Maintenance Department trades personnel at the Fairhaven Facility, Falmouth Shop, Hyannis Shop, and other SSA vessel repair sites.

Candidates should hold a BS in Marine Engineering or equivalent experience, with sailing time and USCG First Assistant Engineer license preferred; must be computer literate and able to coordinate crew, plan work, and ensure safety and

Responsibilities

• Assist with supervision of Maintenance Department trades personnel and vessel personnel at SSA facilities and repair sites.
• Assist with planning, scheduling and prioritizing work to maintain vessels safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.
• Oversee payroll records and documentation for Maintenance personnel (time clocks, leave, reports).
• Support stockroom and warehouse activities and ensure safety and environmental compliance.

Job description

This position shall assist the Vessel Maintenance Manager with the supervision of all Maintenance Department trades personnel wherever assigned and Vessel personnel assigned to the Fairhaven Vessel Maintenance Facility or any location where Steamship Authority vessels may be under repair or overhaul.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with the supervision of all Maintenance Department and trades personnel, wherever assigned and Vessel personnel assigned to the Fairhaven Vessel or at any location where Steamship Authority vessels may be under repair or overhaul.

Assist with the supervision of all Maintenance Department and Vessel personnel assigned to the Fairhaven Vessel Maintenance Facility, Falmouth Maintenance Shop, Hyannis Maintenance Shop.

Assist with determining manpower requirements and assist with planning, scheduling and prioritizing work assignments to ensure the Authority?s vessels are maintained in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Assist with the oversight of payroll records and documentation for Maintenance Department personnel, including daily work reports, vacation and sick leave utilizing the Time Clocks Plus (TCP) and the Asset Guardian (TAG).

Assist with the maintenance, installation and repair of equipment operated by personnel in the various maintenance shops.

Assist with all stockroom and warehouse activities associated with the Falmouth Warehouse and Fairhaven Vessel Maintenance Facility.

Assist with onsite Safety Compliance at the Fairhaven Vessel Maintenance Facility, the Falmouth Maintenance Shop and the Hyannis Maintenance Shop.

Assist with onsite Environmental Compliance at the Fairhaven Vessel Maintenance Facility, the Falmouth Maintenance Shop and the Hyannis Maintenance Shop ensuring best management practices are performed as outlined in all SSA Environmental programs and plans.

Assist Vessel Maintenance Manager in planning and coordinating with other Operations Department management personnel to identify and procure material and equipment necessary for all work assignments prior to each vessel?s annual overhaul and repair period.

Shall meet and review progress of Vessel Overhaul and Repair periods on a weekly basis with vessel senior officers and Operations Department management personnel.

Shall coordinate and work closely with the Vessel Maintenance Manager and Other Operations Department Managers. May Be Required To Alternate management weekend duty assignments with the Vessel Maintenance Manager, Assistant Port Engineers and Port Engineers as directed and be available to respond to emergency calls after hours. May be required to work weekends and/or excess of eight hours per day at times to support the vessels repair schedules.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering, equivalent marine experience or shipyard management experience. A minimum of two years? sailing experience as First Assistant Engineer (preferred). A minimum of an unlimited USCG First Assistant Engineer?s License (preferred). Computer literate (MS-Word, Excel, Project and CMMS programs preferred).

Knowledge in the repair and maintenance of main propulsion and auxiliary systems on vessels. Experience supervising various trades personnel in the repair and maintenance of vessels. The ability to plan work assignments and evaluate manpower resources to develop production schedules for the overhaul and repair of the Authority?s vessels.

Understanding and familiarity with USCG regulations for the repair of commercial vessels. Familiarity with Subchapter H, I, and K USCG Regulations (preferred).
