Job summary

Columbus Early Learning Centers (CELC) is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support learning, safety, and developmental goals. You will help create a structured, caring classroom and engage with families while following CELC policies.

This role emphasizes collaboration with fellow teachers and ongoing professional development. The ideal candidate has a CDA or higher education in a related field, with experience in high-quality early childhood settings and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • CDA (Child Development Associates) required; higher degrees preferred.
  • Experience in a quality-rated program (Step Up To Quality/NAEYC) is valued.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure child safety and well-being with active supervision and a clean learning space.
  • Plan and maintain a safe, sanitary classroom and learning environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of licensing rules and CELC policies.
  • Provide first aid/CPR in emergencies and prevent illness spread.
  • Observe children and report concerns to the Center Director.
  • Engage families through regular communication and progress updates.
  • Collaborate with co-teachers and staff; participate in ongoing training.
  • Support developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Child Safety and Well-Being: Maintain active supervision and ensure a safe and clean play environment.
  • Curriculum and Environment: Plan and maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized learning environment.
  • Standards Compliance: Demonstrate knowledge of Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Child Care Licensing Rules and CELC policies and procedures.
  • Emergency Response: Provide First Aid or CPR in emergencies and prevent the spread of illness.
  • Child Observation and Reporting: Observe children for signs of illness, injury, or emotional disturbances and report to the Center Director.
  • Family Engagement: Maintain frequent communication with families through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Education: Minimum of a CDA (Child Development Associates). Associates, Bachelor's, or Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Some professional child care experience in a highly rated Step Up To Quality or NAEYC accredited program.
  • Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Team Player: Excited to work collaboratively with co-teachers and support staff.
  • Professional Development: Willingness to participate in continuous training and development.
