Job summary

Paul Mueller Company is seeking an Assistant Production Supervisor apprenticeship to learn under a manager while guiding a production team. You will assist with planning, directing manufacturing activities, and ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency for a specific unit.

You will develop skills in coaching, employee relations, and KPI reporting while supporting continuous improvement and capital project ROI under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Supervisory coaching and development of assigned personnel under manager guidance.
  • 12+ months experience in manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 10 within 1 year of hire.
  • Proven training and communication skills with a focus on safety.

Responsibilities

  • Coach, teach, and supervise assigned personnel with guidance from the manager.
  • Provide on-site leadership to motivate team and meet goals.
  • Oversee performance management of direct reports with HR guidance.
  • Build and maintain cross-functional relationships to report on key projects.
  • Manage hourly employees including evaluation and counseling.

  • Collaborate with other supervisors for cross-line coordination.
  • Attend Leadership Training and apply lessons learned.

Job description

The Assistant Production Supervisor is an apprenticeship position that collaborates with a higher-level manager for training and development regarding all responsibilities involved in leading and directing production and employees. This position assists with planning and directing all manufacturing duties for a specific business unit or department. This position is responsible for their team's safety and production quality, and efficiency. The Assistant Production Supervisor assists with planning and assigning work, drives accountability of company policies and procedures, executes continuous improvement, and manages direct personnel.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for coaching, teaching, and supervising of assigned personnel with guidance from the manager.
  • Responsible for effective employee relations. Initiates and is proactive with employee coaching and development. Resolves employee issues by identifying problems and resolutions with guidance from the manager.
  • Provide on-site leadership for the team by building and motivating team members to meet goals while adhering to their responsibilities and milestones with guidance from the manager.
  • Responsible for the performance management (hiring, development, discipline, termination) of direct reports while collaborating with Human Resources and guidance from the manager.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining business relationships, which include working with all levels and organizations of the company to maintain and provide the status of key projects with guidance from the manager.
  • Assist with management of hourly employees, including monitoring, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and learn how to appraise job performance with guidance from the manager.
  • Promote a culture that emphasizes safety for all production activities. Participate in investigations and hold employees accountable for safety violations with guidance from the manager.
  • Promote education, empowerment, and engagement to foster an ownership mentality from direct personnel.
  • Recommend and assist with developing Return on Investment (ROI) analysis for future capital expenditure needs.
  • Learn to manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide regular progress reports to the manager in weekly meetings. Communicate needs and expectations thoroughly to direct personnel.
  • Communicate with planning and buying daily to assure adequate maintenance of inventory levels, delivery schedules, and production needs and schedules.
  • Provide support and backup in the absence of the Production Supervisor.
  • Lead daily start-up and weekly huddle meetings.
  • Learn to organize, prioritize, plan, and establish work schedules, assignments, & production sequences.
  • Develop specific plans to accomplish required tasks. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, & production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Drive to exceed personal/team/Company goals by holding self and team to high-performance standards
  • Work with other supervisors to coordinate operations and labor activities between product lines, as necessary.
  • Attend company-led Leadership Training.
  • Ensure lessons learned are applied to future efforts.
  • Regular, in-person attendance due to the necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of the position.
  • Perform other related duties, as needed and assigned, including backup for other department personnel, to ensure support of the production plan.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and organization skills with a mechanical aptitude that allows for effective communication of technical concepts.
  • Possess a working knowledge of master scheduling of a finished product with multiple levels of processes required to reach the finished stage.
  • Possess a working knowledge of engineering prints, production scheduling, and manufacturing capacity to effectively plan day-to-day activities and anticipate future needs.
Education And Experience
  • Associate's Degree preferred. High School Diploma required.
  • A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience within a manufacturing environment, or similar experience, is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 - Hour General Industry Safety and Health or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hiring.
Base Compensation Range

$59,159 - $88,739 annually

Variable Compensation Range

Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary base on company performance.

Working Conditions

Manufacturing shop environment. Exposure to conditions, such as: dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures. Machinery with energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or other energy.
