Overview

Crothall Healthcare is hiring immediately for a full- and part-time ASST, PATIENT OBSERVATION position.

Location: BJC Memorial - 4500 Memorial Dr, Belleville IL 62226. Note: online applications accepted only.

Schedule: Full- and part-time; varying days and shifts between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Weekends included. More details upon interview.

Pay Range: $15.00 per hour to $15.75 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Provides visual and audible observation of assigned patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and unit manager.
  • Completes observation reports at established intervals.
  • Interacts professionally with staff, patients, visitors, and coworkers; provides compassionate service.
  • Remains at the bedside of the assigned patient at all times unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
  • Redirects the patient from engaging in at-risk behaviors.
  • Seeks help promptly when a patient is in medical distress or poses a threat, escalating to assigned medical professionals as needed.
  • Identifies and reports patient safety issues; ensures a safe patient environment and reports hazards.
  • Assists in calming and/or reorienting patients in cases of agitation or confusion.
  • Supports keeping the patient’s room safe and orderly.
  • Assists with diagnostic testing as required; accompanies patient for procedures when needed.
  • Contacts nursing staff immediately if assistance, control, or other nursing interventions are required; reports concerning behavior or conversations to the nurse.
  • Participates in hand-offs of pertinent information upon unit arrival and shift completion; coordinates coverage around meal breaks with the nurse.
  • Assists with basic patient needs, including dietary tray ordering, meal setup, positioning, and safe ambulation if appropriate.
  • Responds rapidly and thoroughly to emergencies and special needs.
  • Adheres to department and hospital policies, codes, and safety rules; maintains confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Current CPR/AED or Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification required within 30 days of hire, if required at the facility.
  • Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • One to two years of previous patient observation experience is preferred.
