Job description

The Department of Athletics will support the university mission by developing and maintaining a top-quality Division II intercollegiate athletics program that is committed to providing a positive and fulfilling academic and athletic experience for all student-athletes. As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the NCAA Division II, CSU Pueblo Athletics plays a supporting role in the higher education mission while enhancing a sense of community, strengthening our identity and playing a prominent role in enrollment management for the University.

This full-time, year-round administrative professional position provides an Assistant Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This position will provide support in the overall organization and management of the track and field program under the direction of the Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach. The position will assist with cross country, as needed. In accordance with the vision of the Department of Athletics, this position is specifically responsible for all sprints, hurdles, jumps, relays and multi-events (decathlon/heptathlon), including, coaching, practices and workouts, recruiting, scheduling, coordinating travel, planning and monitoring the cross country/track and field budget, monitoring athlete academics, maintaining solid roster numbers, organizing and managing year-round camps and clinics, hosting home track and field meets, monitoring RMAC and NCAA compliance, promoting cross country/track and field to the community, alumni and fans, and developing fund-raising opportunities for the program. Other duties may be assigned by the Head Coach and/or Vice President for Athletics and Strategic Partnerships.

Primary Duties
  • Under the direction of the head coach, coach student-athletes, specifically the sprints, hurdles, jumps, relays and multi-events (decathlon and heptathlon), including assisting in all team practices and scheduled competitions; develops meet preparation and strategy; and trains and conditions student-athletes (including skill demonstration) in order to develop skill, character, and teamwork in track and field.
  • Assist the head coach in the management of the track and field program by planning and coordinating all practices, workouts, and competitions; ensuring all University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations are followed, including student-athlete eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling, and academic progress; assists with team travel; manage the program’s operating budget through procurement requests and travel reimbursements. Assist with cross country, as needed.
  • Recruit qualified prospective student-athletes in coordination with the strategic vision of the head coach.
  • Monitor team academics, including student-athlete welfare, and encourage academic excellence.
  • Help organize and conduct team camps; aid in the development of fund-raising opportunities; serve on committees that promote the success of the program and athletics; establish and maintain community contacts and enhance the success of the program.

Salary Range
$36,000- $42,000Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4-year institution
  • Willing and able to work nights and weekends as needed to fulfill position duties
  • Physical ability to fulfill duties of the position, including skill demonstration
  • At least 2 years of experience at the collegiate level in track and field as a student-athlete or coaching experience at the high school or higher level
  • Experience in position(s) or activities which required skills in:
    Cooperation
    Organization
    Communication
    Problem solving

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited 4-year institution
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to motivate, teach, and counsel student-athletes from a wide range of backgrounds similar
    to that of Colorado State University Pueblo
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Strong management, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Experience coaching at the collegiate level in track and field, specifically sprints, hurdles, jumps, relays and multi-events
  • Experience as a collegiate assistant coach
  • Experience recruiting NCAA qualified student-athletes
  • Experience managing multiple tasks
