Job summary

McLane is seeking an Assistant Transportation Manager to ensure smooth domicile operations within the Transportation Department and provide 24/7 coverage. You will staff, train, and supervise dispatchers, coordinate safety and regulatory compliance, and align warehousing with distribution goals.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Business or related field, with 3 years of outbound transport experience. Proficiency in Excel/Word/Access and driver management is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field is preferred.
• Have 3 years of experience in all facets of outbound transportation, preferably a distribution center.
• Proficient with Excel, Word and Access; PEOPLE NET or similar programs (preferred).
• Experience managing drivers including hiring, training, motivating teammates, and resolving teammate relations issues.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and inter-company memos/outside correspondence.
• Minimum of 2 years accounting, planning, analytical and/or reporting experience, in roles with increasing responsibility (preferred).
• Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors, and teammates.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Knowledge of distribution systems including order routing, backhaul, and transfer procedures.
• English reading/writing at a level sufficient to perform job tasks effectively and safely.

• Ensure compliance with Federal Department of Transportation regulations and other safety standards.
• Maintain fleet in a safe manner per company and governmental standards.

• Schedule Transportation teammates and management staff effectively.
• Facilitate communication within management and with teammates.
• Conduct scheduled performance reviews and recommend salary adjustments.
• Provide training to maintain an efficient and knowledgeable workforce.
• Enforce company policies and issue coaching/disciplinary documentation.
• Exhibit leadership and maintain professionalism.
• Collaborate with Transportation Manager to resolve warehousing and distribution issues.
• Plan, assign, and direct work; address complaints and resolve problems.
• Work independently and in a team; maintain a flexible schedule.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Transportation Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining a smooth operation of a Domicile within the Transportation Department and helps provide 24 hours coverage. The primary responsibility is to maintain a properly staffed and trained department that supports the warehousing function by offering the highest levels of logistics support.

• Pay rate: $80,000 to 100,000 per year depending qualifications.
• This role is also eligible to participate in the annual incentive plan with a target incentive of 12.5% of your base annual salary.

What you’ll do as an Assistant Transportation Manager:

• Direct and motivate teammates.

• Provide general supervision of all transportation dispatchers and functional processes within the domicile.
• Maintain effective and timely scheduling of Transportation teammates and management staff.
• Facilitate communication within the management team and between the teammates and management.
• Conduct scheduled performance reviews for all management staff and submit recommendations for salary adjustments.
• Provide training as needed to maintain an efficient and knowledgeable work force.
• Enforce general company policies and issuance of coaching/disciplinary documentation to teammates.
• Exhibit leadership and maintain level of managerial professionalism at all times.
• Work with Transportation Manager to resolve issues between warehousing and distribution.
• Plan, assign and direct work; address complaints and resolve problems.
• Work independently and in a team environment.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the changing needs of the Transportation Department.
• Other duties as assigned.
