Job summary

McLane Distribution Center seeks a Transportation Manager to lead the transportation department's daily operations and ensure top logistics support for the warehouse.

With a Bachelor's in Business and 5+ years in outbound transport, you will oversee delivery/backhaul activities, drive KPIs, and optimize staffing and training to deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business or related field is required.
• 5+ years experience in outbound transportation and routing/backhaul processes.
• 4+ years accounting/planning/analytical experience and cost-solution focus.
• Experience managing large driving teams; hiring, training, and coaching.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour coverage for transportation operations.
• Supervise all transportation ops managers and processes.
• Maintain staffing/training to deliver high logistics support.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate deliveries and backhaul activities.
• Drive KPIs for cost savings and service excellence.

The Transportation Manager establishes and maintains the smooth operation of the Transportation department at a McLane distribution center.

What You’ll Do As a Transportation Manager

• Assist with providing 24‑hour coverage.
• Provide general supervision of all transportation operations managers and functional processes within the department.
• Maintain a properly staffed and trained department that offers the highest levels of logistics support to the warehouse.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate all delivery and backhaul activities.
• Drive key performance indicators for cost savings.
• Efficiently utilize manpower via proper scheduling and training to provide the highest levels of customer service at the store level.
• This position has additional duties; special projects may be assigned.

Qualifications You’ll Bring As a Transportation Manager

• Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field.
• 5+ years experience with all facets of outbound transportation; knowledge of distribution systems, including routing and backhaul/transfer procedures.
• 4+ years of accounting, planning, analytical, and/or reporting experience; ability to identify financial issues and provide cost‑effective solutions.
• Experience managing large numbers of driving staff; experience with hiring, training, and motivating teammates and resolving employee relations issues.
• Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Access).
• PREFERRED qualifications for this position include: Outbound transportation experience at a distribution center; experience using Trimble/PeopleNet or similar transportation management systems (TMS); prior positions that offered increasing responsibility levels.
• This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job‑related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
