Job Description

Summary:

The Kindergarten Assistant will provide academic, socio-emotional, and/or behavioral support at the direction of the kindergarten teacher. The job will include instructional and supervisory responsibilities while working with students one‑on‑one, with a small group of students, or with a whole group of students. The Kindergarten Assistant will report to and is evaluated by the principal and kindergarten teacher(s).

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares materials for instruction.
  • Provides planning time for teachers, including but not limited to outdoor activities, rhythm activities, and story time.
  • Provides lunchroom assistance.
  • Supervises school-based routines, such as dismissal, restroom, etc.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

  • Language Skills: Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one‑on‑one and small group situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Adds and subtracts two‑digit numbers and multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s. Performs these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability: Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. Deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, talking, hearing.
  • Lifting Demands: Up to 55 pounds.
  • Reaching Activities: Overhead.
  • Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity: 3, moderate.
