Job Title: Asst Junior High Boys Wrestling Coach
Department: Activities
Education Level and Certification: High school degree or GED required. Nebraska Teaching or Administrative and Supervisory Certificate, with a Special Services Certificate in coaching, preferred. Any other mandatory training and/or certification is required. First Aid and CPR training required (may be obtained on the job and must be kept current). Must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license with a certificate to operate a school van. On‑staff certificated employee preferred. Coaching experience preferred.
Reports To: Activities Director
Required Job Tasks
- Oversee and manage the assigned team.
- Use good judgment to determine athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time.
- Positively promote the athletic program within the schools and the community.
- Assist in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
- Coordinate with the Activities Director in planning and scheduling practices, announcements, competitions, and the like.
- Supervises locker rooms and playing areas during and following periods of team participation.
- Remains with students and supervises them when traveling to away events.
- Oversees and tends to injured athletes.
- Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories.
- Works closely with custodians in control at facilities.
- Serve as a role model to all students.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
FLSA Status
FLSA Status: Exempt. Professional exemption: The employee has a primary duty of performing work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study or has a primary duty of teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing in the activity of imparting knowledge and is employed and engaged in this activity as a teacher.
Essential Functions
The essential functions of the Coach position include: (1) regular, dependable in‑person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and, (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements:
- Stamina – Sitting, Walking, Standing, Sprinting/Running
- Flexibility – Bending or twisting at the neck/trunk, Squatting/Stooping/Kneeling, Reaching above the head, Reaching forward, Repeating the same hand, arm or finger motion many times (e.g., typing, data entry).
- Activities – Climbing, Hand/grip strength, Driving on the job, Typing non‑stop.
- Use of Arms and Hands – Manual dexterity, Finger dexterity.
- Lifting Requirements – up to 10 lbs, 11‑25 lbs, 26‑50 lbs, 51‑75 lbs, 76 + lbs (various body positions).
- Pushing/Pulling – 25‑50 lb, 51‑75 lb, 76‑90 lb, 90 + lb.
- Carrying – 10‑25 lb, 26‑50 lb, 51‑75 lb, 76‑90 lb, 90 + lb.
