Job description

FDU is seeking candidates for the Assistant Director of Athletics/Head Athletic Trainer position. This individual will develop and implement a program for athletic training applicable to the Division I intercollegiate athletics program. This position reports to the Deputy Athletic Director.

The incumbent will also be responsible for the oversight and management of the department’s student-athlete drug testing policy and student-athlete insurance program. The position will serve as the day to day liaison to the head team physician and associated medical professionals with the department's affiliated hospital and doctors, the University Counseling Center, and Student Health Services. This position will be required to have direct oversight for the daily athletic training responsibilities of the Men’s Basketball Program, including team travel.

1. Baccalaureate level degree with basic courses in anatomy, physical education, health or related topics. Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine required; certification as a physical therapist is preferred.
2. Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association and New Jersey State (Athletic Trainer License) prior to the first day of employment.
3. Four to six years of applied experience in the field, preferably at the college level.
4. Strong communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
5. Must have First Aid andCPR– professional rescuer certification prior to the first day of employment. American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification preferred.
6. Must be able to work flexible hours as required including evenings, weekends and holidays.
7. Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with the university’s Motor Vehicle policy. AMVCcheck will be required at the time of hire and thereafter as deemed appropriate by the university. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing theMVCcheck.
8. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
