Position Overview

We are hiring a Part-Time Assistant Teacher for our Early Learning Center at Lansdowne YMCA, specifically for the opening shift. This role involves supervising children, conducting health checks, monitoring entry points, and maintaining appropriate child-to-staff ratios. Flexibility for coverage is also required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing daily classroom operations following the Child Care Parent Handbook and Policies.
  • Create a safe, engaging, and culturally diverse environment promoting development through play and socialization.
  • Ensure safety and health standards are met daily, supervise outdoor and indoor areas.
  • Use positive guidance techniques aligned with YMCA values.
  • Maintain effective communication with families regarding children's progress and needs.
  • Participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of daily activities with aides.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork promptly.
  • Attend staff meetings and family events as scheduled.
  • Uphold professional standards and policies at all times.
  • Perform supervisor duties in the absence of the Group Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the community's success.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school diploma or GED and 2 years (2500 hours) experience with children.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Commitment to quality improvement.
  • CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid certification within 15 days of hire.
  • Completion of required training programs.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift 15-50 pounds.
  • Sufficient mobility and agility for supervision and activities.
  • Good visual and auditory acuity for safety and environment assessment.
