Job summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a skilled welder to join our fabrication team in the United States. You will perform welds on crusher parts and other components, using a range of manual, semi-automatic, and mechanized processes. You will read 2D drawings and 3D models to meet exact specifications.

The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and reliability, with opportunities to train on cranes and various tooling. This position requires physical work outdoors and occasional heavy lifting in varying

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Self-motivated with high accountability to requirements.
  • Strong mechanical background.
  • Ability to accurately measure parts with tape measures and straight edges.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of safety and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Perform weld build up on crusher parts using manual, semi-automatic and mechanized welding.
  • Utilize welding processes such as FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW.
  • Use positioners and manipulators to move large workpieces for welding.
  • Perform cutting operations with oxyacetylene, plasma cutters, grinders and CNC burn table.
  • Excavate cracks, perform dye penetrant and beveling for crack repair in steels.
  • Use hydraulic rams to position components as needed.
  • Complete quality control documentation for each job.
  • Operate burners and torches to preheat pieces to welding temps.
  • Weld on cast iron, manganese, and Cu-AL dissimilar materials.
  • Interpret 2D blueprints, 3D models and weld symbols for fabrication.
  • Utilize tooling such as ironworker, bandsaws, magnetic drills, come-a-longs, and hoists.
  • Complete task training on overhead cranes, lifts, welders within 90 days.
  • Apply 5S principles to maintain a clean, safe workplace.
  • Develop equipment checks and PM procedures to extend asset life.
  • Report damaged tools and tag out defective equipment.
  • Develop checks to catch failures before they arise.

Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a high level of safety and ensure that the team maintains a safety-first culture
  • Perform weld build up on crusher parts using manual, semi-automatic and mechanized welding processes
  • Utilize welding processes such as FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW
  • Use positioners and manipulators to maneuver large workpieces to be welded
  • Perform cutting operations using oxyacetylene, oxyfuel, exothermic, carbon air arc, plasma cutters, grinders and a CNC burn table.
  • Excavate cracks, use dye penetrant, bevel and fill crack repair in steels
  • Use hydraulic rams to push and pull pieces in and out of place
  • Ensure completion of quality control documentation
  • Operate rosebuds, torches and induction rope to preheat pieces to desired welding temperatures
  • Weld on cast iron, manganese, and Cu-AL dissimilar
  • Interpret and understand 2D blueprints, 3D models and weld symbols to complete various fabrication requirements
  • Use tooling such as an ironworker, horizontal and vertical bandsaws, magnetic drills, come-a-longs, chain-hoists, grinders, hammers and wedges to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Complete task training on all overhead cranes, forklifts, sweepers, manlift, scissor lifts, welders and torches within 90 days of hire
  • Use 5S methodology in conjunction with the floor sweeper to maintain a clean and safe workplace
  • Extend total life expectancy of assets by learning PM procedures for all equipment utilized and remanufactured by the welding group
  • Report damaged tools and tag out of service so that they can be replaced
  • Develop operational equipment checks to catch failures before they arise

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • Must be a self-motivated, strong work ethic individual that is willing to work with minimal supervision and at high level of accountability to operational requirements
  • A strong mechanical background
  • Ability to correctly measure parts with tape measures, pi tapes and straight edges are necessary to perform the job functions
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to report and transfer information
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions, cold and wind, sometimes rain, will be required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. will be required
