About the Role

A veterinary practice is seeking a Full-Time Associate Veterinarian to join its growing small animal team in Jackson, California.

Offering a $125,000-$165,000 salary plus commission opportunities, this position provides the chance to practise high-quality general medicine and surgery while gaining exposure to complex and advanced cases that may typically be referred elsewhere.

The Associate Veterinarian will manage a varied caseload spanning wellness, diagnostics, medicine, and surgery, supported by experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians and veterinary support professionals.

This opportunity is particularly well suited to a veterinarian looking for clinical variety and professional development without sacrificing quality of life, with Jackson offering a relaxed foothill and wine-country lifestyle within reach of Sacramento, Lake Tahoe, and the Bay Area.

About the Practice

This is a well-established small animal veterinary practice that has served Jackson and the surrounding community since 1990.

The practice is equipped with digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, and comprehensive in-house laboratory capabilities, providing veterinarians with strong diagnostic resources for working up a diverse range of cases.

While referral centres are accessible when specialist intervention is required, the clinical team also manages more advanced cases in-house where appropriate and depending on individual client needs.

The practice has developed long-standing relationships with local pet owners and animal rescue organisations, with a strong emphasis on personalised medicine, continuity of care, and trusted client relationships.

Experienced Registered Veterinary Technicians and support staff provide valuable clinical assistance, helping veterinarians focus on delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

The Associate Veterinarian will:

  • Provide high-quality medical, surgical, and preventive care to small animal patients.

  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of illnesses, diseases, and injuries.

  • Interpret diagnostic results and develop personalised treatment plans.

  • Utilise digital radiography, dental imaging, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory testing.

  • Manage routine and more complex medical cases where clinically appropriate.

  • Perform general small animal surgical procedures.

  • Provide comprehensive wellness and preventive healthcare.

  • Clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment options, prognoses, and home-care requirements.

  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients and their pets.

  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians, Registered Veterinary Technicians, and support professionals.

  • Work with referral centres when specialist care is appropriate.

  • Support local rescue patients and community initiatives where required.

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient medical records.

  • Continue developing clinical skills through continuing education and mentorship.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent and possess, or be eligible to obtain, a California veterinary licence.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in general small animal medicine and surgery.

  • Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making abilities.

  • Confidence interpreting diagnostic results and developing treatment plans.

  • An interest in managing complex and challenging clinical cases.

  • Excellent client communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach.

  • Commitment to high standards of veterinary medicine.

  • Genuine compassion for animals and their owners.

  • Motivation to continue developing clinically and professionally.

This position would particularly suit a veterinarian looking to combine challenging clinical medicine with the lifestyle benefits of California's foothill and wine-country communities.
