Ocean State Equine located in North Scituate, Rhode Island is seeking a full-time associate veterinarian. Located just outside of Providence, Rhode Island, our hospital is 1 hour outside of Boston, 90 minutes from Cape Cod, and 3.5 hours from the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. We are a 5-doctor practice with two internship positions offered yearly. Our ambulatory practice is 100% equine and our call radius includes Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts, and eastern Connecticut.
We enjoy a collegial, professional, and fun work environment! Primary care, sports medicine, and emergency medicine are the practice strengths and serve as the core upon which we plan to continue to grow the practice. With the completion of a new facility in 2018, OSEA is equipped with 2 ICU stalls, 10 in-patient stalls, 3 treatment areas, stocks, and an indoor arena with a paved jog strip. While we do have an operating room and two induction/recovery stalls, we do not currently have a surgeon on staff. After hours emergencies requiring hospitalization are primarily referred to the nearby Tufts Hospital for Large Animals. Associate veterinarians are primarily ambulatory, though our hospital is available for haul-in appointments or emergencies as desired.
OSEA strives to improve work life balance and career satisfaction for our staff. Emergency work is shared on a rotating basis amongst associates and involves 1-2 week nights and 1-2 weekends/month on call. Holiday coverage is shared on a rotating basis. Once intern doctors (2) are comfortable taking primary on-call, back-up support is provided as needed. All associates are expected to participate in mentoring interns. We routinely hold teaching rounds, journal club, imaging rounds, and wet labs. Associates have a technician for all appointments during business hours. Development of special areas of interest is encouraged. Special focus continuing education opportunities are also supported.
Salary is base-plus and is commensurate with experience and production. Emergency fees are paid 100%. Each veterinarian is provided their own vehicle, computer, and phone. Equipment and assistants are shared between associates. Benefits include: health insurance stipend, 401K, long-term disability, dental and vision plans, liability insurance, continuing education stipend/time, cell phone compensation, licensure for RI, MA and CT, DEA licensure, and paid time-off. A fully stocked practice vehicle is provided and our clinic is equipped with a full complement of modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment including: multiple DR X-ray machines, numerous ultrasounds, upper airway endoscopy, gastroscopy,PRP, Prostride, IRAP, and shockwave.
