Dow has an opportunity for an Associate TS&D Scientist, based in Mexico City – MEX, to support customer needs by leading the development of new applications and by providing technical knowledge on the use, handling and management of Dow products.

In this role, you will require in-depth conceptual and working knowledge of your discipline or functional area. You will need to understand your discipline's best practices and how they relate to others. You may need to lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements as well as serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues. You should also be able to explain difficult or sensitive information and work to build consensus with others.

It is your responsibility to analyze and resolve complex problems, examine information from multiple sources, and use judgement to evaluate established and new solutions. Your performance impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities within your own team and other related teams and requires that you work within established guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively implements new technologies, products, or applications to address technology needs for the business and comprehends test method scope and limitations and prepares internal test methods, designs overall testing protocol to deliver project objectives

  • Convinces others about differentiated technical solutions. Articulates synergies between technologies to maximize value effectively and understands how business value is created for Dow and the customer

  • Consistently applies the scientific method to solve technical problems

  • Understands the connections of the scientific method to Six Sigma, ICO, DFSS, NPI, and other methodologies

  • Develops new approaches and solutions to problems by considering issues from different points of view

  • Manages secrecy agreements and joint development agreements to protect Dow technology for specific projects

  • Provides constructive input to project participants

  • Leads technical sub teams and defines scope of the larger project space

  • Mentors junior level scientists and technologists

  • Delivers presentations or reports that distill complex ideas into clear results and proposals; communicates appropriately to influence internal and external audiences

  • Communicates and appropriately documents work in the form of internal reports/ROC's/presentations, technology manuals, knowledge management resources, external reports, and patents when appropriate

  • Serves as principal author on papers and presentations and presents at industry conferences

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field.

  • Previous experience working preferentially with polyethylene, polypropylene, elastomers, rubbers and/or functional polymers for rigids, durables, infrastructure, consumer and/or mobility applications and markets.

  • Strong knowledge of material creation process, raw material/product registration process, industry EH&S requirements.

  • Fluent English in verbal and written communications.

  • Availability to travel (20% a 50%)

  • Knowledge of polymers and/or polymer fabrication technologies, gained through a university level education in Polymer Material Science, Fabrication Technology or Engineering, or closely related fields.

  • Ability to successfully partner with team members and stakeholders (sales, marketing, TS&D, R&D, regulatory, product stewards, etc.) from multiple backgrounds.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to utilize internal and external network and understanding of multiple technologies to build partnerships with customers and co-suppliers for business growth and solving complex problems

Desirable

  • Master’s degree or PhD preferred. Material Science or related field.
