Job summary

TYLin, a global infrastructure consultancy, is seeking an Associate Transportation Planner to expand NY Region transportation planning efforts, with a focus on Vision Zero, active transportation, mobility, and curb management. You will collaborate with planners, engineers, and data scientists on planning studies, policy analyses, and stakeholder engagement.

While an immediate vacancy may not be available, we are building relationships with talented professionals who are interested in joining our growing City Solutions new projects and hiring needs materialize.Responsibilities & QualificationsIdeal candidates will be solutions-focused, with the ability to contribute to and provide QA/QC review of various work products; they will be client-facing, with the ability to communicate persuasively and develop positive team dynamics; and they will have demonstrated experience managing complex projects, including the ability to understand and anticipate bigger-picture client and business needs while successfully managing day-to-day project demands.Responsibilities will include serving as project manager or principal in charge; leading and supporting local project proposals; contributing to TYLin’s thought leadership and innovation initiatives; and helping to grow the technical acumen of local planning staff.Responsibilities:Project Management· Lead and oversee strategic and citywide transportation planning projects, managing project budgets and schedules, and implementing QA/QC processes· Leading interdisciplinary project teams and the development of technical reports and presentations· Build tools, procedures, or analyses that set our practice apart from competitors and ensure consistency of products internally· Foster and maintain strong client relationships· Occasional travel to client sites is requiredBusiness Development· Leading business development initiatives and production of proposals (spearheading proposal responses, pursuing intelligence activities)· Contribute to the business development strategy for specific practice areas, the national planning practice, and the regional market· Represent the firm through thought leadership at conferences, professional organizations, and through social mediaStaff Management· Provide staff mentorship, including sharing technical expertise, professional development advice and helping to guide staff growth· Assist with workload planning, identifying gaps in staffing, and lead recruiting efforts to fill gaps· Potential to manage and supervise a team of staff (2-4 staff), ensuring adequate capabilities and capacity and anticipating succession planning needsSkills and Qualifications:The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following qualities:· Demonstrated success managing complex transportation planning and/or design projects, including management of staff, budgets, and clients· Strong written and verbal communicator who understands current and emerging industry best practices and can speak authoritatively on those topics· Has existing strong client and partner relationships· Ability to foster a team environment and lead, motivate, and mentor staff· Involvement in relevant professional organizations locally and/or nationally (NACTO, APA, ITE, TRB, or others as relevant)· Experience in marketing, networking, and business development· Familiarity with industry best practices (e.g., MUTCD, NACTO, AASHTO, and other relevant guidelines)· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Power BI and/or other industry softwareRequirements:Candidates must meet the following requirements:· A minimum of 10 years of transportation planning experience with at least 5 years of experience in a consulting firm or similar· Degree in urban planning, urban design, or related field· AICP certification preferredAdditional InformationTYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $117,600 - $176,400 annually for this position and local market.
